How To Apply Fashion Week To YOU

Even if you’re not following dozens of fashion blogs and seeing shots of fashion week allllll day long via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook as I am, you’re still likely to have gotten some exposure to the collections shown last week in New York. In the past I’ve done full collection-by-collection reviews of the shows and while I think it’s a blast to check out all the pictures and consider each designers contributions, this year I thought I’d try a different approach.

With so much information and stimuli being thrown at us the real question is how do we weed through it all and decide how to apply it to our own lives? Our own closets?

While buying a new wardrobe each season sounds amazing, if not slightly indulgent, that’s not something that most women I know have the time, money, or inclination to do. So why not take a more broad look at the clothes shown at New York Fashion Week and see what pieces you should consider picking up for Fall, what clothes you may already have that can be brought to the front of your closet, and which accessories and beauty trends to try out.

Trousers:

Hold onto your Spring 2013 pants for Fall and Winter this year – They’ll continue to be all the rage. From dark, moody florals to plaids & tartans to jumpsuits.

So what should you invest in for Fall 2013 or pull out of your closet? My suggestion would be a great pair of cropped pants and a pair of printed pants. If bright florals or camo are too too for your personal style, why not try a pair of retro plaid pants or a tone-on-tone pattern that’s more demure?

Embellishments & Accessories:

For Fall pick pieces with fun embellishments – Interesting fabrics & textures, jewels, spikes & studs, and embroidery & brocades. And be sure that you don’t skimp on the accessories, all of these are unique details that will give your wardrobe a dramatic, eye-catching quality.

Spice up your Fall looks with some fun extras – Hats, gloves, shoes, scarves, watches, belts & handbags should all have fun, one-of-a-kind touches that make them stand out.

Cropped Jackets:

Boxy retro-inspired jackets, sleek motorcycle jackets, classic boucle jackets – Whatever your style and whatever jacket will suit you best, you should find it in a cropped version!
