San Francisco is an amazing place to live for a number of reasons, and one of the great ones right now is being at the forefront of technology advances. With tech giants like Google, Twitter, Square, and Facebook all nearby, we’re in a unique position to have access to an amazing range of start-ups and up-and-coming companies, and their products.

I was recently made aware of an innovative new product created by Sense6 Design Inc. called Artemis – This combination of stylish jewelry and wearable technology is fulfilling a unique and extremely necessary role in the arena of personal safety. The jewelry is connected to your smart phone and when you tap the piece three times it sends out a signal that you need help and begins an audio recording.

When I first heard about Artemis, I was intrigued for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, this is something that is exceptionally relevant to me personally. As a woman, I’m a higher risk for being attacked. I also walk everywhere and oftentimes that means I’m walking around San Francisco at night or early in the morning. I’m extremely lucky that I’ve never had any issues, but I’ve known people who have been mugged or assaulted near my apartments and my office over the years.

Second, the name really caught my attention. One of my majors was Classics so my mythology background immediately brought to mind the Greek Goddess Artemis- The mistress of wild things and protector of women. Such an apt name for this line of jewelry!

Finally, as a fashion lover who is also a fan of modern tech, I love how they’re combining these passions to create a wearable tech that’s so stylish.

I’m excited to share that Artemis is launching a pre-order campaign on Indiegogo that has just started and the first 100 people to purchase the product get significant discounts.

Additionally, be sure to check out their Crowd Fund video “Diana” {the Roman name for Artemis!} here.
