Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I’ve vacillated on the New Year’s Resolution conundrum over the years… On one hand, I appreciate the concept. Let’s better ourselves. Let’s encourage change. All great. Unfortunately, on the other hand, the modern attention span lasts roughly 72 hours. So all those grand plans and wonderful dreams are forgotten by the time you’re recovered from your hangover and washing the champagne flutes.

In 2012 I made a list of Non-Resolution Resolutions and in 2013 & 2014 I started the monthly round-up series to help keep me on track with my short-term goals.

When I was thinking about what I’d like to accomplish this year and what my goals should be, I realized something pretty amazing. I’m a goal-setter and a To Do List maker for life, that’ll never change, but I’m pretty darn content with my life right now. I’m… Happy.

Years of striving and planning and focusing on the future, and for the first time I can remember, I’m living my life for now. I’m present. I’m here in the moment and loving every second of it. So regardless of my goals, I think I’m starting 2015 on the perfect note!

Goals:

  1. Publish or perish baby! In 2014 I got published in a few local magazines for fashion and lifestyle pieces, but my goal for 2015 is to work towards publishing my personal work – The novel & short stories I’ve been writing since my late teens.
  2. Keep Moving! I loved my 2014 goal to try a different activity every month and I’m going to try to keep it up for 2015. Martial arts, SCUBA diving, and mountain biking are all on the list.
  3. Be grateful! I’ve made it a point over the years to focus on keeping my negative thoughts at bay – See my Be Positive or How To Be More Positive posts – And I think that’s part of how I’ve gotten to this happy, healthy place. So this year I’m going to continue to write daily affirmations, keep a gratitude journal, and be positive!
  4. This is the hardest one – Breaking some bad habits. Namely, the unconscious habits that will keep me from achieving my goals this year. Stop feeling guilty. Stop doubting myself. Stop Waiting. Stop comparing. I’ve got my work cut out for me!
