Today I’m thrilled to invite Los Angeles-based glam rocker Ricky Godinez of Ricky Rebel back to MCLV! After his fabulous interview on beauty & skin care last year, I begged him to come back to share some of his healthy living tips & fitness recommendations.
As a Pilates instructor, dancer, and serious go-getter, I loved hearing what he suggested to help get that fit, chiseled look that we get to see on his Instagram page.
First up – Fitness!
Your mirror selfies on Instagram reveal some seriously enviable abs – In addition to Pilates, which you teach, and the dance practice that you have to do for your shows, what other workouts are you doing?
I hit the gym every now and then. I lift weights and do 20 min of cardio. I tend not to overdo the cardio because if I do, I start to lose muscle. It’s all a balancing act. I try to have a consistent workout regimen though.
What does a typical week of fitness look like?
Monday I take a Pilates class before I instruct 3 of my own Pilates classes. I fortunately do not have to perform every single move in my classes or I would be exhausted. Tuesday I take a day off. Wednesday I take a morning Pilates class or a Bar Method class (If I feel like lifting my booty) and instruct 3 classes afterward. Thursday I take the day off. Friday I instruct 2 Pilates classes and then take a morning Pilates class. Saturday I take the day off. Sunday I hit the gym doing cardio, weight training, minimal legs, & a quick efficient ab routine.
And recommendations for people who are looking to step up their fitness regimes or who have a hit a plateau in the gym?
I recommend Pilates. Pilates is something that every athlete should do. It helps strengthen and align your musculature giving you that extra edge that will help you become a stronger more high performance athlete.
Have YOU tried Pilates? What did you think?
Stay tuned for Part II of this interview to hear about Ricky’s diet and daily approach to nutrition.
