Darlings, today I’m here to spread the gospel of Turmeric.
This bright yellow spice hails from the Far East and has so many health benefits that it’s practically a crime to skimp. Whenever I feel a cold coming on – Hello, office petri dish – I start putting turmeric in EVERYTHING.
On a normal day, however, it’s still pretty prevalent. I add it to coffee or espresso if I drink one instead of tea in the morning {got that idea from LoveSweatFitness}. I add it to my post-workout green smoothie. And I put it in any stir fries, sautées, or salad dressings at dinner.
The flavor is mild and you don’t really taste it unless you work at making it the foremost flavor in a dish.
What are the benefits? I’m glad you asked!
Turmeric has powerful medicinal properties, has been consumed for many generations, and is known for fighting and even helping reverse disease. In a few quick bullets, turmeric is:
- Anti-bacterial
- Anti-microbial
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-depressant
And, in addition to those amazing benefits, studies have shown that turmeric, and the compounds in turmeric, help lower the risk of heart disease, cancers, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s Disease.
