#GoFitYourself | Finding Balance

Some days finding balance in my life seems like an impossible pipe dream, while other days I feel like I’m nailing it. And honestly, I think that’s fine. Part of finding balance is about accepting that sometimes it’ll fall by the wayside, but rather than panicking or overcorrecting, you just start fresh the next day.

Here are some basic tips and suggestions that can be applied to work towards a more balanced lifestyle:

  1. Make Lists – I don’t always follow my lists, and I don’t always remember to check things off, but the simple act of writing one helps me focus. So, each morning when I get through my inbox, I spend a few minutes thinking about what I need to get through that day and include any reminders to myself, and it helps me feel prepared and ready to tackle the day. My daily lists can include everything from what I’m making for dinner to my workouts to errands that need to be run.
  2. Schedule Downtime – Part of my day – Every day – Is set aside for ME. I know that you’re busy, you’re being pulled in a million directions, that you’re overwhelmed and overstressed. And because of all of that, it can seem impossible to make time for yourself. But it’s actually the opposite. If you do set aside time for yourself, you’ll be better equipped to tackle everything that the day throws at you. While I definitely consider my workouts “me time,” I also have a set nighttime routine that helps me wind down and prepare for bed. I get my things ready for the next day, do an Epsom salt bath, followed by my nighttime skin care routine, and a few minutes of meditation. Some days I only manage the bath, others I enjoy all the steps. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about trying!
  3. Exercise – Working out does so many amazing things for your body and mind, I can’t recommend it highly enough. From de-stressing to improving health to clearing your mind to giving yourself an endorphin hit – Exercise is clearly great for you. And another thing about working out? Anything is better than nothing. It doesn’t matter if you go for a 30 minute walk or take a 60 minute class or spend 10 minutes doing a bodyweight workout. You will benefit from all of them.
  4. Turn It Off – Between work and social media – It can seem like we have to be “on” 24/7. But you know what, you don’t have to be. Turn off your phone for part of the day – Just relax and give yourself a break. I promise, the world won’t end. I tend to take the evenings off – I may snap a shot of dinner, but for the most part, I’m away from my phone and enjoying my evenings fully.
