We’ve all been there…
The treat meal that turns into a full day of “treat yo self.” The brunch with a few too many mimosas that leaves you tired and hungry the day after. The busy week where you don’t have time to make dinner let alone workout.
Truthfully though, the key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn’t being perfect, it’s getting back on track after a deviation.
We’re all human after all.
Here are some tips to help you get back on track to reaching your healthy lifestyle goals:
- Forgive yourself. Whenever I “fall off the wagon” I find myself wracked with guilt. How could I have let that happen? Why didn’t I stop? It’s easy to lay the blame, but not always to let it go. So my number one tip is to let go of the guilt, forgive the slip, and move on to your next health meal/day.
- Prepare. After a misstep, you want to immediately set yourself up for success. Toss out the yummies you bought while you were hungover and head to the store for some nutrient-dense food. If you have time, do some food prep to help your future self succeed.
- Write It Down. I’m a huge fan of To Do Lists and setting up calendar reminders to ensure a smooth week. Things always come up, that’s inevitable, but you can’t plan for that. What you can plan for is setting yourself up to achieve your goals. So spend a few minutes jotting down your goals for the week, what workouts you want to do, classes you want to sign up for, and what your diet will look like. Putting some thought into it and writing it down will help keep you engaged in the process.
- Get Inspired. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about making a good choice here or there. It’s about staying motivated and creating a sustainable lifestyle. For me, a big part of staying on track is staying motivated. I’m very, very visual, so I like following inspirational women on social media, and making motivational Pinterest boards. When I’m feeling unmotivated, there’s a quick fix to get me fired up!
