F. Scott Fitzgerald

There are a number of writers who have thrilled me over the years. Brought me to tears, to laughter, and back again. Perhaps spending a portion of my childhood running around my parents’ cozy bookstore was a factor, but my passion for reading probably also stems from my family’s deep, deep love of the written word.

I can’t count the numbers of memories I have of everyone sitting around reading in my house growing up – Both parents so absorbed in their books that you had to yell to get their attention. Or the number of books they read my brother and I as bedtime stories – My father’s love of Fantasy coming through loud and clear in his choices of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Philip Pullman, and Patricia C. Wrede.

My first memories of love were with authors, books, characters. I remember my heart aching for Elizabeth during the period in Junior High when I read every Jane Austen book that I could get my hands on. I remember obsessively rereading The Count of Monte Cristo and getting lost in the world that Alexander Dumas created. I remember trying my hand at poetry after falling head-over-heels for Henry David Thoreau.

Since my passion for the written word is why I started writing in the first place, and ultimately started MCLV, I’m going to start sharing the occasional post featuring some of my favorite writers and poets.

Starting with the romantic and tragic herald of the Jazz Age, F. Scott Fitzgerald.
