Hair Transformation: Redhead to Platinum Blond

A hair transformation is always a challenge, and undertaking a darker-to-lighter shift isn’t for a faint of heart.

After a few years as a redhead I recently made the decision to give a silvery platinum blond a try. Just, you know, to find out if blondes really do have more fun.

Three appointments and a lot of at-home hair treatments later I’m thrilled with the results. What I’ve learned from this experience is twofold.

First and foremost, anyone who wants to “go blond” should have to sign a release waiver. It’s a serious process and the upkeep is BANANAS, it would be pretty devastating if you didn’t know what you were getting yourself into. {Check out my Salon Etiquette post for other salon-related suggestions}

Second, keeping your hair healthy is your number one goal. I became the master of hair products over the past few months and have been using dry shampoo, oils, and masks like nobody’s business.

Read on to see some of the products that I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with this Spring to keep my hair healthy and manageable:

On a daily basis L’Oreal’s EverSleek Precious Oil Treatment goes on the ends of my hair while Alterna’s Cleanse Extend Translucent Dry Shampoo in Bamboo Leaf Scent goes on my roots.

Whenever I need a little boost I turn to the Hair Chemist Coconut Oil Deep Repair Masque or the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque.

And while I’ve been trying to wash my hair as little as possible, when I do I’ve been using Pureology’s Precious Oil Shamp’oil and Precious Oil Softening Conditioner.

Short Hair Tutorial: Flat Iron Waves

Since getting my hair cut, I’ve been trying to acclimate to styling the new length. My traditional look is hair pulled back into a bun, but it’s actually too short for that right now.

What I’ve learned about this shorter length is that it’s all about the tools and products. I tend to appreciate the no-muss, no-fuss approach to hair and beauty, so having an expert like Klaudia available to educate me has been invaluable. And since I know I’m not the only one who appreciates a good short hair tutorial, we decided to document the process to share with you!

[3.] After you’ve curled all the pieces in each layer of hair, spray copiously with hair spray. Here we used Garnier Fructis Flexible Hold With Natural Bamboo Extract. Then release additional hair from the clip & repeat until all your hair has been curled,

Vacation Beauty: 5 Must Have Products

When I’m traveling I want my beauty and skin care routine to be as simple and effective as possible. A few killer products with minimal preparation time is what I always strive for.

For my tropical Spring Break adventure this year I rounded up my favorite goodies for my trip so read on to see what five products have made the cut!

Moisturizer

I recently fell head-over-heels in love with eco-friendly Bay Area skin care company Algenist.

For this trip I’m packing their divine Regenerative Anti-Aging Lotion for nighttime TLC along with my favorite travel oil for daytime wear – Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47.

Sunscreen

After seeing great results from the Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Lotion I just had to try out their Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid with SPF 50, and I can confirm that I was not disappointed.

It’s the perfect lightweight sunscreen for your face and neck on a daily basis. Zero grease!

Tint

I’m a huge fan of Tarte Cosmetics and their Cheek Stain in Tispy {a gorgeous sheer coral hue} is the perfect one-stop-wonder when you’re traveling.

Use it on your cheeks, lips, and eyes for a touch of shine and color. There’s nothing perfect for sun-kissed skin!

Lip Balm

Keeping lips healthy and protected from the elements is a necessity on active trips like mine – Between salty air, sea water, and a shining sun, it’s easy for that sensitive skin to start to look a little worse for wear.

I keep Korres Mandarin Lip Butter Stick with SPF 15 in my toiletry kit for this very reason!

Concealer

In all of my years of concealing I’ve never used a product as effective, and versatile, as Yves Saint Laurent’s TOUCHE ÉCLAT. Ask any beauty guru or make-up artist and they’ll inevitably have this baby in their tool bag.

Cover blemishes, brighten eyes, highlight… This is a true multi-tasker!

Drugstore Beauty Finds

I may be madly in love with my new Dior Forever Compact and live for visits to the Chanel counter at Barney’s, but my approach to beauty is similar to fashion – I love mixing high and low. That means that my make-up bag has a carefully tested selection of killer drugstore beauty finds that I swear by!

Mascara is something that I can’t leave the house without. I’ve tried everything from YSL’s Mascara Volume Effect to Benefit’s BADGal {a regular in my rotation} – But I have to confess that one of my all-time favorite’s is CoverGirl Bombshell Volume Mascara. Not only have I been asked if I’m wearing false lashes, but I’ve had make-up artists ask what my lash secret is. You know your mascara is doing its job when professionals are noticing!

The Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze Glisten Blush Stick is a must in my make-up bag or clutch for a night out because it’s a serious multi-tasker. Eye shadow, blush, lipstick, highlighter… There’s nothing this little stick can’t do. My go-to hue is Coral Sheen but there are some gorgeous shades out there to try!

Want a super soft lip balm with a hint of color? J’adore Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Lip Balm Crystal Kiss. It’s the perfect choice when you want a little boost but lipstick or thick gloss is just too much.

Yes To is one of my favorite drugstore brands – Their products are clean and effective, just what I need. I especially love their grapefruit line and always travel with Yes to Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelettes.
