MCLV Style: Cobalt

Cobalt is without a doubt my favorite shade of blue.

It’s bold and eye-catching, but still feels very classic. And as an added bonus, it’s also versatile enough to make styling a breeze with all the great options for mixing and matching. Especially for Spring!

When I saw this cobalt dress I knew it had to be mine. The styling options are endless. This can easily go from a sweet Summer style thrown over a bathing suit with sandals to a great evening look with a cropped leather jacket and killer heels.

I get asked about this coat all the time – I actually bought it when I lived in Rome my Junior year of college. The store and brand have been lost to the sands of time (I mean – it was TEN years ago!) but I’ve loved it every minute since. If this is just your style as well, you can find similar styles here, here, and here.

What’s YOUR favorite shade of blue? Are YOU a fan of cobalt as well?

MCLV Style: Black & White Street Style

A few weeks ago I shared my colorblocked Fall look from the first day of Lucky FABB in New York City, along with some of the conference highlights. Today I’m sharing my black & white look for the second day of the conference as well as introducing you to some of the amazing writers that I spent time with in NYC.

In 2013 I had the honor of attending four blogging conferences – IFBCON in February during New York Fashion Week, Lucky FABB in LA in April, iFabbo here in San Francisco early in October, and then finally Lucky FABB’s East Coast conference in late October.

Each of the conferences provided me with information, {everything from technology updates and improving writing skills to helpful new software & aps to check out} access to great speakers, {celebrities, designers, editors, writers, bloggers…}, endless inspiration, and my favorite part – Introduced me to amazing women with similar interests and passions.

During my most recent blogger conference I spent my down-time with some of my favorite San Francisco ladies who also made the trip, as well as bloggers I hadn’t seen since previous events and new friends.

Do YOU like wearing Black & White as well? What’s YOUR favorite color combination?

MCLV Style: Black & White

There’s a funny story to go along with these pictures…

I had actually brought this lovely green dress from Saffron Raw Threads to wear for the shoot but fate intervened when a gentleman bumped into me, spilling his coffee all over the dress. Rather than waste precious time with my favorite NYC photographer Lydia who was visiting for the Summer, I ran into H&M and threw together a new black & white look.

Et voila!

I have to confess that I really enjoyed how this look turned out. I like the combination of black & white graphics with the bold, colorful clutch – It’s a visually interesting and eye-catching combination.

And another confessions? I’ve worn this dress TO DEATH since this day. It goes with everything and I absolutely love it.

Have YOU had a major fashion disaster like this happen to you?

Share! 🙂

Looks of the Week

The Looks of the Week – Office Style Edition was a fun deviation from the standard round-up of looks, I for one really enjoyed getting inspired to be more creative with my work looks. This week is all about international street style and the looks below were put together by fashion bloggers everywhere from Russia to the UK to Poland.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

{Does it get better than this? Bold black & white stripes and checkers paired with brilliant yellow, and finished off with chic two-toned sling backs. Swoon.}

Cloud-Print-Dress

{Does anything say Spring more clearly than a sweet cloud print skirt? And the pretty fuschia pumps are the perfect punctuation for the look!}

Black-And-White-Printed-Suit-Yellow-Chanel-Bag

{I couldn’t be more in love with this look – The silhouette of the suit is perfect, the print is fun & eye-catching, and the cut is beyond flattering. This is a How To on wearing prints for Spring so take notes!}

Striped-Suspenders

{You know what there aren’t enough of these days? Suspenders. And you can quote me on that!}

Zebra-Print-Combo

{Head-to-toe black & white zebra print? Yes please!}

Clearly I’m loving black and white trend for Spring, especially when paired with a bold colored accessory – It’s classic but with a fun, modern twist. What’s my personal nod to this style? Just ordered this top and matching bottoms from Nordstrom – Can’t wait to show you guys! 🙂

Are you a fan of black and white for Spring? What’s your favorite version so far this season?

Welcome To The Red Carpet…

Each Spring we get to witness the fabulous journey from red carpet to red carpet that the celebrities embark on that leads to the Oscars. Have I seen all the movies being nominated for & winning awards? Nope. Not even close. Do you know which gowns & frocks I love and which designers are killing it? Oh. Yes.

Here are some of the highlights of late!

AllisonWilliam

{I like this because it’s a one-of-a-kind take on a standard Little Black Dress and the answer to what to wear to a cocktail party.}

ChloeMoretz

{Cute. Eye-catching. Age appropriate. What more could you ask for from a young starlet?}

People's Choice Awards 2013 - Arrivals

{I adore a man in a suit, but with an endless parade of red carpets during awards season black and grey suit after black and grey suit gets a bit… Dreary. Three cheers for a man who mixing things up and likes to try great colors & textures. Precisely as the face of Burberry should!}

People's Choice Awards 2013 - Arrivals

{Flowy and white can frequently bomb on the red carpet. Too loose, too casual, too flower child… But this one is perfection. It’s all about the belt!}

People's Choice Awards 2013 - Arrivals

{Another black & gold number that killed it on the red carpet. Dramatic. Unique. Flattering. Perfect!}

People's Choice Awards 2013 - Arrivals

{Finding the perfect jewel toned gown isn’t easy and I can’t imagine a more beautifully colored dress than this one. And that silver collar? Swoon!}

People's Choice Awards 2013 - Arrivals

{Prints & patterns are such a breath of fresh air on the red carpet in a sea of princess-y frocks and this metallic black & silver number was especially stunning. And she wisely left the statement jewelry at home.}

Taylor

{Another fabulous white gown curtsey of Ralph Lauren. Lovely silhouette and a flattering hue, but those earrings were what really sold me. Just stunning!}

Kerry

{I LOVE Kerry Washington and she’s had some killer looks during her Django Unchained press tour – But this Giles gown is one of my favorites. It’s totally unique while still looking like it was made for her. Brava!}

And finally… Some Golden Globe goodness:

LucyLiu

{I love this dress! There was lots of back-and-forth on this one from the commentators, but I thought it was fun and a breath of fresh air!}

MichelleDockery

{Striking. Just striking.}

NaomiWattsI

{I love the drama here – The deep oxblood color, the neckline, the train… There’s a lot going on, but it works for her.}

AmyPoehler

{I LOVE pants on the red carpet. And I love women in tuxedos. This is simple but totally chic and timeless. Well done Amy, well done.}

HelenMirren

{Wow. It’s eye-catching and dramatic, but still age appropriate and utterly flattering. Gorgeous dress!, I love the gold embellishments.}

JessicaAlba

{This peach hue suits Miss Jessica to a T. It’s classic but the styling, jewelry & bag take it up a notch.}

JulianneMoore

{I love black & white on the red carpet. It’s sharp and eye-catching. And Julianne Moore knows JUST how to pull off this killer Tom Ford gown.}

TaylorSwiftI

{Flawless. The gown is a stunning color, suits her figure perfectly, and I adore the double straps, low back, and sheer stripe. Perfection!}

KateHudson

{Drama Drama Drama. When you want sophisticated, high fashion drama and glamour you know where to go – Alexander McQueen!}

KerryWashington

{I’m not usually a fan of sheer hemlines but I just love this sparkly Miu Miu number. It really stood out last night – Both on the red carpet and on stage – And it looks great on her.}

NicoleKidman

{And she’s back! I used to love everything that Miss Kidman wore on the red carpet but all the white lately hasn’t been my favorite – This however is killer. It’s busy, but she’s just the woman to pull it off!}

NicoleRichie

{Such a standout dress last night – This is the definitely of an eye-catching look!}

In my humble opinion there was a winning tie here… Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta {styled by the fabulous Brad Goreski} and Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier. Both looked utterly striking and were styled to perfection. Well done to everyone though, there were virtually no disasters at this stylish event.

My only complaint? Where was Keira Knightley??? Her Chanel gowns for the Anna Karenina red carpets have been divine – I was dying to see what she was going to wear to the Golden Globes. Sob!
