30 Day Challenge

I’m kind of obsessed with Snapchat right now, and one of my favorites is Chinae from GetFitBrooklyn. She just started a very inspiring 30 day challenge of new, healthy habits. Her journey includes tackling the Whole 30, taking daily walks, and meditation, among other things.

So what am I going to try out for my personalized 30 day challenge in August?

I’m going to work on relaxing and on reducing my stress levels. I’m pretty self-motivated when it comes to working out and healthy eating, so what I want to challenge myself to do, is to slow down!

I’ve been lazy when it comes to my meditation and gratitude journaling lately, and down right deficient when it comes to including yoga in my daily life. So for August my goal is to:

  1. Meditate 1-2 times a day
  2. Write in my gratitude journal every morning
  3. Do yoga 2+ times a week

I’m not a great sleeper so meditation before bed is a great habit for me to get into. But unfortunately when I’m frazzled at night, I tend to forget. So this month will be able making it an important part of my wind-down routine. I’ll also try to squeeze in a morning meditation session, time permitting.


I have a calendar reminder on my computer to jot down an affirmation each morning, but if I’m busy when it goes off, I have a terrible habit of snoozing or dismissing it.

No more!

I’ll be sure to write in my gratitude journal each morning – I love starting the day with some positivity to get things off on the right foot.


I love yoga. Love it.

So why don’t I do it more often? Because I have a terrible habit of choosing sweaty workouts instead. But that needs to stop. Yoga is the perfect way to move on active rest days, especially since I’ve been stressing my body lately with heavy weights and long runs.

So I am challenging myself to make these changes for 30 days.

To make these small improvements to my life daily life, in the hopes that they will outlast the 30 day challenge.

Restaurant Review – Greens

Greens Restaurant is a vegetarian restaurant inside Fort Mason in the Marina neighborhood of San Francisco – It has delicious, healthy food, a creative, seasonal menu, a fabulous view, great wine list, and they’re incredibly willing to adjust dishes and make substitutions. Which is one of my favorite things in a restaurant!


For my recent birthday my family was sweet enough to take me to Greens – even though I’m the only one who follows a plant-based diet – since it’s one of my favorite restaurants in the city (Millennium is another dream place to eat!)


{Yellow Finn Potato Griddle Cakes – Ohmylord these little “cakes” were amazing, the table shared an order and I could have easily eaten two orders myself!}


{Yellow Curry w/ Fall vegetables & coconut milk – My mom & I both ordered and LOVED this dish – Tasty & very filling}


{Angel Hair Pasta – This vegetarian version of a classic dish was well-loved by the table – Especially the corn!}


{Fire Roasted Poblano Chili – Sean is incredibly hard to feed at this type of restaurant and always manages to order the dish that everyone likes least. It’s like he does it on purpose… Anyway, this was interesting but a little bland.}

If you’re ever in the city and are in the mood for a great meal with a phenomenal view I highly recommend giving Greens Restaurant a try!

Cafe Gratitude

This past weekend was busting at the seams with amazing and memorable moments. Three of my best friends from college came to San Francisco and we had a truly amazing weekend. There was dancing, running, watching the CrossFit Games, laughing and a whole lot of food. One of the major highlights?

This place!

Cafe Gratitude has been on my Must Try list for years but I almost never make it to the Mission so I’ve never had the pleasure before. And, WOW, what a pleasure! This is a famous San Francisco vegan landmark that supports local farmers, sustainable agriculture and environmental-friendly products. The quote at the top of the menu really says it all:

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food – Hippocrates

The four of us girls have all vegan or vegetarian at various times over the years and were genuinely thrilled to try this place on for size. My boyfriend, however, was slightly less enthusiastic. He was a good sport about it though and I ordered him Indian once we got home. 🙂

We spent an insane amount of time looking over the menu and finally settled on just ordering half of it.


  • I Am Enlivened: High protein algae shot
  • I Am Luscious: Vegan milkshake w/ hazelnut milk, figs, dates, cacao & vanilla bean – UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE!!! This was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had.
  • I Am Courageous: Organic slow dripped coffee


  • I Am Complete: Mediterranean plate featuring raw green falafel (not a huge hit), live crackers (yummy) and a seriously delicious almond hummus
  • I Am Grounded: Roasted organic potatoes w/ spicy cashew nacho cheese – I’m not going to try to lie and say that we behaved like ladies, we didn’t, we practically licked the plate clean.
  • I Am Transformed: Corn tacos w/ brown rice, black beans, salsa & cashew nacho cheese – This was my order and I ate it in under two minutes. And then promptly started on my neighbor’s food… 🙂
  • I Am Warm-Hearted: Organic polenta w/ Puttanesca sauce, cashew ricotta & Brazil nut parmesan – Delicious & hearty, this would be a great dish for a chilly winter night
  • I Am Elated: (Entirely raw) live spinach tortilla enchilada w/ sprouted seed filling & topped w/ spicy mole & cashew sour cream – This looked delish, but it never made it around to me
  • I Am Grateful: This is a really great dish and consisted of brown rice & local community-grown veggies w/ an amazing tahini & garlic sauce

Immediately after trying the cashew nacho cheese in the I Am Grounded appetizer my friend Emi and I bounced out of our seats and ran to the front to buy the Cafe Gratitude cookbook. Be on the look out for some recipe adventures once I dig in!

Unfortunately there was a major downside to this lunch… Namely that I’m now addicted to a restaurant that is really, really far away from my apartment.

I also want to offer a quick congratulations to Crystal & Ashley for their amazing time at the SF Half Marathon!
