San Francisco Fashion: CCUOCO DIVERGE Runway Show

My favorite thing about being a blogger here in San Francisco is being able to get to know amazing local brands, designers, and stores. And being able to share them with you!

I initially met designer Candice Cuoco last September during San Francisco Fashion Week, right before she was named San Francisco’s Best Emerging Designer of 2013. And 2014 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for this up & comer as she just showed her first collection at New York Fashion Week in February and will be rocking London Fashion Week in September.

I even had the honor of wearing a made-especially-for-me couture leather look for New Year’s Eve this year – New Years Eve Leather.

Bay Area residents – I recommend that you get to know this amazing designer and her phenomenal work and attend the CCUOCO DIVERGE Runway Show!

MCLV Style: New Years Eve Leather

The sartorial cherry on top of the sundae of a fashion-heavy year was wearing New Years Eve leather in the form of original CCUOCO couture look to ring in 2014.

I fell head-over-heels for the gothic glamour of Candice Cuoco’s designs during San Francisco Fashion Week and have been itching to try them out ever since. And what better reason to put on a sexy leather look than a killer New Year’s Eve party?

Despite working on a runway show extravaganza for New Year’s Eve the sweet-as-pie designer offered to create a look for me, even altering her runway design to suit my non-model physique. The end result was fun, bold, and perfectly suited to my evening of dancing, meeting new people & plotting a fabulous 2014 with Legally Vogue!

And in exciting news, Miss Candice Cuoco has been invited to show her amazing collection at New York Fashion Week. Helps us raise the money to send her by contributing here and you’ll be helping introduce her striking designs to the world!

So tell me, what did YOU wear for New Year’s Eve?

Project Runway: IIMUAHII Couture Interview

How many people can say that they’ve been on a successful reality television show? How many people can say that they’ve designed a collection and watched it slink down the glimmering runway of New York Fashion Week? How many people can say that they’ve collaborated with an international pop group?

Elena Slivniyak can!

{Momoiro Clover Z (“MCZ”) Gunn Collaboration}

This Project Runway alum and creator of IIMUAHII Couture has left reality TV & her first Ready-To-Wear collection behind to focus on her passions – Couture & Avant-Garde designing and costuming.

Since she left the set of Project Runway Allstars this past Summer she’s gone from one major project to the next. And luckily all of that hard work is going to pay off as she works on the costuming for an amazing new film project.

But don’t worry, you can see her designs in motion before that blockbuster hits theater in the Momoiro Clover Z Gounn collaboration – Check out the music video here.

I walked into the IIMUAII studio armed with pages of research, interview questions, and more than a few butterflies.

However, the soft-spoken, laid-back beauty that greeted me was so straight forward and easy to talk with all my careful planning immediately flew out of my head.

Don’t worry though, even if I didn’t ask a single question that I’d prepared, I did learn some interesting things about Elena & IIMUAHII during our long chat.

  1. Elena draws a great deal of inspiration from the Far East and cites Japan and traditional samurai costuming as something that always fires up her imagination. Another source of inspiration for this creative force? Science Fiction!
  2. IIMUAHII is a friend to both the planet and animals. The studio produces eco-friendly, low-carbon pieces, and not only are they partnering with the animal safety non-profit Big Dawgs Rescue right now, they also only use faux fur for their collections.
  3. And of course no designer interview would be complete without asking who their dream customer would be. And for a woman who has already dressed celebrities like Tyra Banks & Kelly Roland and singing sensation Lady Gaga, that’s not an easy question to answer! So who is Elena’s dream customer? Madonna!
So what am I most excited about when it comes to IIMUAHII’s bright future? I’m dying to try out the Koji Multi-Purpose Handbag as soon as possible. Seeing the pictures from the photo shoot and the prototype in the studio has only whet my appetite for the real thing!
What question would you ask your favorite Project Runway designer?

San Francisco Fashion Week: Avant-Garde & Couture

When I meditate on the word “couture” I envision a rustic, artist-filled Paris in the 20’s. I think of Coco Chanel working tirelessly with her team to create a custom tweed suit for a very special client. I think of families that share the secrets to their flawless handmade lace from generation to generation. I think of designers taking pride in their work, managing every single detail, overseeing all of the steps. I think of delicate fabrics, intricate designs, and hours upon hours of diligent work.

Now marry that concept with that of avant-garde design and you’re taking that one-of-a-kind eye for detail and those personal touches that couture is known for and applying them to designs that are modern, fresh, and boundary-pushing.

That my friends – Is a match made in heaven. Now take a look at some of the amazing pieces that were shown during San Francisco Fashion Week’s Couture & Avant-Garde showcase and see this magical combination come to life before your eyes!

As I’m sure you’ve already picked up, I’m a big fan of Fall in general and Halloween in particular {Fall Fabulousness, All Hallow’s Eve & October Round-Up}. This year I was lucky enough to attend two fabulous Halloween parties in Sacramento as well as act as American River CrossFit’s team photograph for CrossFit West Sac’s charity Breast Cancer competition.

This year I was excited to dress up twice, the first time as Wendy from Peter Pan in a vintage yellow nightgown and the second time as The Black Dahlia in a fabulous little black dress that my friend made.

But don’t worry, I’m not the only one who dressed up for Halloween this year. Bones dressed up as a CHICKEN! Again. Clearly it’s his favorite costume, doesn’t he look enthusiastic?

{Mammograms In Action – Barbells For Boobs}

And the day before Halloween I watched the exciting Barbells For Boobs charity CrossFit competition which included every shade of pink known to man and even Jessica Rabbit in a stunning red gown.

How was your Halloween? What did you dress up as? What was the best costume that you saw?
