Giving Back: Dare to Bare Fitness Festival

I was recently introduced to the wonderful Bay Area organization – The Movemeant Foundation. This group promotes self-confidence in young men and women by supporting local programs that use health and fitness to empower and inspire.

And last weekend I was beyond excited to join the whole Movemeant crew, including the organization’s founder Jenny Gaither, for a seriously inspiration morning of fun in the sun for their annual fitness festival.

The Dare to Bare event, held in the Marina, was an outdoor festival that featured the likes of TRX Suspension Training, SurfSet, hip hop dancing classes, SoulCycle, and other fun, exciting workouts.

The event also had a wonderful round-up of sponsors including some of my favorite brands – Zico, Purity Organic, Camelbak, Sambazon, and Under Amour, among many amazing others.

After enjoying the walk over to the venue and checking in, I did a quick spin around the space. Two stages, a dance floor, surf boards, TRX equipment, and delicious snack and drink stands. Not to mention a high energy group of fitness enthusiasts all milling about excitedly. Post-tour I was thrilled to grab a bike and sit in the sun listening to Jenny introduce the event and her fellow SoulCycle sisters.

The three trainers then took us through a killer workout with tons of girl power and cheering. Nothing makes you feel quite as powerful as being in a sea of inspirational women all pumping their fists and riding in a black Dare to Bare sports bra to support the same cause as you.

This was the second Dare to Bare festival and I for one can’t wait until next year’s festival!

The Movemeant Foundation & Dare To Bare

I decided to start this week off on a positive note. What better way to kick off a Monday than by sharing an organization that is working to promote self-confidence and self-expression in young women?

Movemeant Foundation Dare to Bare SoulCycle

The Movemeant Foundation, a San Francisco-based non-profit, supports local programs that use health and fitness as a means to empower and inspire. The organization works to remind us all of what we’re capable of, and to ignore the constant pressures that we feel on a daily basis to achieve perfection. They believe that through teaching women the value of their bodies and of movement, they can give them the tools they need to navigate an increasingly stressful and self-destructive day-to-day environment.

Raise your hand if that completely resonates with you!

For me, the oh-so-noble goals of this organization definitely hit home. I was an athlete from a young age and when I switched sports at the age of 12, I still distinctly remember my first brush with body dysmorphia. Throw in puberty, and let’s just say, it was a rough, and emotional, transition.

Are you interested in learning more about The Movemeant Foundation? Even better, do you want to get involved?
