MCLV Style: Army Green Trench

There are few things that I love more than a well-tailored trench coat. It’s classic, it goes with everything, and you can literally throw it over any old thing and take your look to a new level.

I mean… There’s a reason all the most stylish women in history are known lovers of a good trench coat!

So when I was browsing the Fall outerwear on the Tobi website I immediately zeroed in on this army green coat. Classic with a twist is just my style!

The weather in San Francisco during the Fall and Winter is unpredictable to say the least. It’ll go from thick fog to clear blue skies to rain in a single day. Without notice. So pieces like this coat are perfect since they’re lightweight and easy to carry around.

I live for killer cold weather outwear, but San Francisco isn’t necessarily the place for those heavier overcoats.

You’d be sweating in minutes!

Another thing that I love about trench coats is how versatile they are. Pair a timeless trench with a little black dress and a pair of pumps for a Jackie O-inspired look that works for everything from date nights to a business meeting.

Want a little edge in your daily life? A striped top, jeans, ankle boots, and trench – Bam! Street style chic with virtually zero effort.

Tell me – What’s YOUR favorite way to wear a trench? How do you feel about colored versions like this green one?

Daytime Outerwear: A by Anubha

As I’m sure you’ve picked up, I’m a big fan of great outwear {Statement Coats}. I love that even without taking into account what you’re wearing underneath, your daytime outerwear can make a big impact. Bold colors, unique prints, retro inspired silhouettes, one-of-a-kind vintage finds, fun geometric designs – They’re all eye-catching and dramatic in a way that’s different from separates or accessories.

The new line A by Anubha recently caught my attention at San Francisco Fashion Week’s Emerging Designers Runway Show. The line is Khadi oriented – Khadi being an organic hand-spun, hand-woven fabric and while it originated in New Delhi, the designer is now a San Francisco local. What struck me most about these pieces was the combination of classic, clean silhouettes and striking, bold colors. The end result are some of the most wearable jackets and coats I’ve seen in some time.

I had the good fortune to meet designer Anubha Srivastava and after the show we decided to play dress up in front of a camera so that I could try out some of her fabulous outerwear. As you can see from the pictures below, not only are these pieces beautifully made, they’re also very wearable. Often times you’ll see something on the runway or in a store window only to realize it wasn’t created with the real female figure in mind. These pieces, however, were.

What’s YOUR favorite style of daytime outerwear?

Did you love this piece as much as I did? You can find out more about the line and contact the designer here. And be sure to stay tuned for the nighttime looks from A by Anubha!

MCLV Style: Plaid

Fall means one thing to me this season – Plaid!

I just haven’t been able to get enough of it so when I saw this great zipper shift at Zara I just knew that it had to be mine.

After I brought my new baby home from the store I knew that there were going to be two really fun styles that I would want to try. First, pictured here, I wanted to have a go at the 90’s, grunge, Saint Laurent-inspired style that’s all the rage this season. Ankle boots, chunky jewelry, and a rock n’ roll bag were the finishing touches I settled on.

My next styling project with this versatile plaid shift will be a retro-inspired look featuring a vintage hat, Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag, and round-toed heels. A bit more ladylike and the perfect contrast to this more laid back look.

Are you a fan of plaid or tartan as well? What’s your top pick for Fall?
