Awards Awards Awards

No time to chat, lots to see!

12th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon:

Claire Danes looked stunning in chic white Donna Karan. The belt & pumps were a great touch of color and I like how the look is low-key and elegant rather than in your face. You can always count on Donna Karan for that!

Adorable! Such a complimentary combination of colors and fabrics on her. And great shoes!

BAFTA Los Angeles 18th annual Awards Season Tea Party:

Evan Rachel Wood was quite a sight in a fitted red pencil skirt and pointy-shouldered printed blouse from Roland Mouret. I love that she unbuttoned her blouse to reveal a lacy black bra. Feisty!

Charlize Theron looked prim and proper in a gorgeous Stella McCartney dress. The pop of cherry red lipstick keeps all of the yellow from being too sweet.

Octavia Spencer was a vision in white. She accessorized perfectly with a leopard clutch, thick bangle and metallic pumps. Perfect for an afternoon tea.

Felicity Jones stood out in pale Dolce & Gabbana, the ribbon shoes and neutral envelope clutch keep it from being too plain,

The 2012 Independent Spirit Awards:

White seemed to be the color de jour in the days leading up to the Golden Globes and Miss Elizabeth Olsen was another who tried it out. I love the layering of this look, the oversized boyfriend blazer over a shift dress, paired with long necklaces. And I love love love this top handle handbag. Need!

Cinema For Peace event benefitting J/P Haitian Relief Organization:

Felicity Jones was a vision in lacy, layered Valentino. Such a beautiful dress!

The 2012 Art Of Elysium Heaven Gala:

Amber Heard amped up the glamour with this Old Hollywood knockout look from Donna Karan. She wisely let the dress take centerstage and steered away from over accessorizing.

Kirstin Dunst tends to favor looks with a bit of quirk, so while the sheer black overlay on this Valentino gown might have appeared matronly on another actress, it somehow works on her. Another reason I included this look was because her makeup looks flawless, I've never seen her look better.

The white Valentino gown that Ali Larter donned was anything but boring and her earrings and clutch really stole the show. Absolutely gorgeous.

Minka Kelly was hard to miss in bright, bright Oscar de la Renta. The basic silhouette of this gown and the simple gold accessories were important since they let the extraordinary color of the fabric take front and center.

New Girl on the Block – Felicity Jones

Well, perhaps “new” isn’t the most accurate of words, but I figured since I had to IMDB her to figure out why she was suddenly popping up everywhere I could get away with calling her new.

And yes, “to IMDB” is a verb now. 🙂

Not only is Felicity Jones a striking young lady, she also makes great fashion and beauty choices. She favors dramatic and ladylike styles on the red carpet, a combination that is unusual in Hollywood these days but less so in London (the fact that she’s pale, dark-haired and British aren’t the only reasons she reminds me of Keira Knightley). In Hollywood the younger crowd seems to, tragically, equate rising success with rising hemlines. Young actresses like Felicity are a breath of fresh air when they appear in more classic and demure designs as their careers start to take off.

Here are some of Felicity’s successes as of late. Enjoy!

In Proenza Schouler @ The Hollywood Reporter’s Annual Next Gen Reception. While I think this skirt would have been more flattering with a little hemming, I really like the look as a whole. Its interesting and eye-catching, something both Felicity & Proenza Schouler do well.

So what do you guys think of Felicity? Think she’ll be able to keep up her great fashion choices as the red carpet opportunities continue? I can’t wait to see the gowns she picks for the upcoming awards season!

The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!

Happy Friday! To celebrate, I say we look at pretty people getting all dressed up. And luckily for us, there were a couple glamorous, star-studded British events this past week with some very eye-catching looks worth mentioning.

2011 British Fashion Awards

Georgia May Jagger continued the Great Gatsby trend in pale, shimmery Julien Macdonald. I miiight have worn a sandal with a dress this delicate, but there's no denying she looks great here!

How can you not love a girl who can get away with flats at a black tie event? Alexa Chung looked adorably retro and chic in Christopher Kane.

There were two other looks at the 2011 British Fashion Awards that I – GASP – couldn’t make up my mind about… And you want to know what? They were both Matthew Williamson outfits. Go figure.

I should preface this by saying that I’m a little hesitant when it comes to fringe, especially high-octane fringe, but I couldn’t help gasping when I saw this dress. If it was floor length I think the fringe would be too much, but on a cocktail length frock its perfect. But my issue with this look is actually the styling… The hair is a bit severe, I think a gracefully swept back ponytail would have been perfect, and the shoes & clutch are waaay too busy. The key to pulling off this dress is maintaining a level  of simplicity with the rest of the look.

Since I clicked back to this picture three times I decided that I should say something. It’s a beautiful dress and manages to suit her coloring even though strictly speaking I wouldn’t say those are her colors, and I like her simple accessories and loose braid. My issue? The fringe! I think without the small spots of straw-colored carpet fringe (and a little hemming) this would be a picture perfect look.

Moral of the story? I have zero hard & fast rules when it comes to fringe! 🙂

BAFTA Los Angeles 2011 Britannia Awards

Mr. Yelchin is doing quite well on the red carpet lately. What I really like is that he's not wearing boring suits, they all have subtle patterns, interesting fabrics or an embellishment of some sort that make them stand out. And one word. TAILORING.

This is everything that you want in an evening look, its stunning, head turning and fits Asha to a T. I also love the capsleeves and vintage silver earrings. Simply beautiful.

Felicity Jones looks fresh and young in this fitted Moschino with a ballerina skirt. I think her clutch and hair are the perfect touches, keeping the look minimally chic. (I'll be doing a post on Miss Jones next week so stick around if you'd like to see more of her!)
