I’m a big fan of Farmers Markets and CSAs, but I also need to pop into at least one grocery store a week to stock up.
{Side note: When I’m stocking up on pantry basics I order from Thrive Market. I’m slightly obsessed with their vegan, gluten-free, organic options. So many choices!!}
A mixed household – i.e. omnivore & vegetarian – Means a little planning is necessary to make sure that everyone gets what they need during the week. This is also when weekend meal prep becomes a total life saver. And time saver!
So here’s my vegetarian/omnivore weekly grocery list:
Produce:
Fresh fruits & vegetables are the bulk of my shopping every week. I like to get what’s local and in season when possible, though I’ll definitely seek out specific ingredients when I’m trying out a specific recipe.
Here’s an idea of the types of produce I’ll grab in a given week, though it always varies.
- Zucchini
- Tomatoes
- Spinach & romaine lettuce
- Broccoli, cauliflower & Brussels sprouts
- Peppers
- Cucumber
- Cabbage
- Green beans or sugar snap peas
- Radishes
- Onions
- Potatoes or sweet potatoes
- Carrots
- Lemons & citrus
- Berries
- Apples
- Bananas
Grains/Legumes/Seeds/Nuts:
- Raw, Gluten-Free Oats
- Chia Seeds
- Quinoa, barley, brown rice, or faro
- Hummus {I usually have 2+ tubs in the fridge at any given moment}
- Raw almonds, cashews & walnuts {Occasionally pecans as well – Raw, unsalted}
- Dried fruit {Blueberries, cranberries and/or raisins, without added sugar}
Animal Products:
Yes, I’m a vegetarian who cooks meat for my S.O.
- Organic, free-range chicken breasts {Not that he cares about organic}
- Organic, free-range eggs
- Parmesan {His favorite dish is tomato basil chicken which takes about 20 minutes, so I keep all the ingredients on hand}
And where am I getting my goodies?
In addition to Thrive Market, my Eatwell Farm CSA, and the Ferry Building Farmers Market here in San Francisco, I also go to a health food store called Nature Stop in North Beach and Trader Joe’s. I absolutely love TJ’s!
