Running Essentials

One of the things that I love about running is that it’s a no-nonsense kind of sport. In the mood for a run? All your really need are shoes and you’re out the door.

No gym subscriptions. No specialty gear. No expensive equipment.

That being said, as I’ve perfected my craft in recent years, I’ve developments a little kit of running essentials that make hitting the pavement easy.

Shoes: I was recently informed that my beloved Brooks PureFlows don’t have enough padding for my increasingly tired feet, so I’m currently rotating between two pairs of Mizuno WaveInsight 11s. They’re ridiculously comfortable

Arm Band: I always take my phone with me when I run. In part because I love to snap a few pictures of a beautiful view when I come upon it – Check out my Instagram account for those! – And for safety. In case I run too far or get lost or hurt myself, I want a fully charged phone in case of any emergency. Enter my Nike Running Arm Band.

Headphones: A friend got me a pair of Bose in-ear headphones that I LOVE. Full disclosure, I’m a semi-professional headphone breaker with a very impressive record. Those “amazing” Beats By Dre headphones? Almost made it to 3 months. These babies are killer though, great sound & super durable. I’ve had them since November and I’m still in the honeymoon phase.

Fashion Bloggers Do Fitness

I follow many blogs on social media – From food bloggers to lifestyle bloggers to fashion bloggers. Lots of fashion bloggers in fact. It’s so fun to get lost in the dreamy landscapes of Tuula Vintage or the high fashion editorials of Gary Pepper Girl or the uber chic world of Wendy’s Lookbook.

Even more than that, I love getting a peek behind the scenes at their fitness and nutrition on a day-to-day basis. We’re talking about ultra successful women who have created their own brands and who travel the world for events, collaborations, and projects – So staying healthy in shape is part of their job.

A Week of Workouts

I get lots of questions about my workout regime and, especially, how I stay active with such a packed schedule.

Tip #1 is to prioritize yourself. It seems impossible when you’re being pulled in a million directions, have an endless To Do List, and a calendar that leaves no time for anything new.

But the sad truth is that none of that is going to change. However, just think about how much better you’ll be able to meet those challenges if you’re at your healthiest!

To help give you guys a peek into my day-to-day routine and approach to healthy living & working out, I decided to keep track of my workouts for the last week in February as I finished up the Tone It Up 8 Week 2016 Challenge and started training for the Presidio 10 Miler. This will give you an idea of how I squeeze things in when I’m utterly slammed during the week.

All Things Running

I’ve been a dedicated to running for about a year and a half now. It’s my favorite way to decompress and the *ultimate* stress-reliever for me these days. I’m not running marathons or logging serious weekly mileage, but I think that all you need to call yourself a runner is to enjoy hitting the road!

Bad day? Go for a run.

Have an extra hour? Go for a long run.

Beautiful day out? You guessed it – Go running!

Over the years I’ve read books, had my gait tested, researched running shoes, and, most importantly, actually gone running. Having just signed up for my first race since having back surgery two and a half years ago, I did what I always do when I’m excited about something new – I scoured the internet for tips and suggestions and recommendations from the best of the best.

Here are a few of my favorite soundbites on nutrition, form, training, recovery, and more, for all those runners out there.

MCLV Style: Fabletics

Hello, my name is Caity, and I’m an addict.

A Fabletics Addict.

And I’m not sorry. Not one little bit.

I jumped into 2016 with a long list of fitness goals and the new 2016 Fitness Adventures series with Miss Jill, which means that I’ve basically been living in gym clothes outside of the office. And to be entirely accurate, I’m usually in gym clothes from 12pm-1pm at the office gym too!

Luckily, Fabletics has had my back this year.

The Adventura tank top is at the top of my list – I think I have five different ones at this point. They’re the perfect length, fit like a dream, and are super versatile. A top that effortlessly goes from yoga to TRX to running? That’s a winner in my book!

While I’m definitely the pickiest about my tops, I’m still pretty darn picky about my bottoms. Specifically, running bottoms. I like them TIGHT on the legs, but not squeezing my “I’m working really hard on this stop making me feel bad about myself” middle section.
