Short Hair Tutorial: Flat Iron Waves

Since getting my hair cut, I’ve been trying to acclimate to styling the new length. My traditional look is hair pulled back into a bun, but it’s actually too short for that right now.

What I’ve learned about this shorter length is that it’s all about the tools and products. I tend to appreciate the no-muss, no-fuss approach to hair and beauty, so having an expert like Klaudia available to educate me has been invaluable. And since I know I’m not the only one who appreciates a good short hair tutorial, we decided to document the process to share with you!

[1.] Gather hair at the top of your head & secure so that you can work with a single layer at a time,

[2.] Using a slim flat-iron like this mint green beauty from ghd, wrap 1-inch sections of hair around the iron & hold for 5-10 seconds depending on hair thickness,

[3.] After you’ve curled all the pieces in each layer of hair, spray copiously with hair spray. Here we used Garnier Fructis Flexible Hold With Natural Bamboo Extract. Then release additional hair from the clip & repeat until all your hair has been curled,

[4.] Depending on desired curl, tousle or comb through hair, and do a final spray.

Braids & Updos

A few months ago I shared a fun Summer updo featuring these oh-so-classic Chignon Clips gifted from Seattle-based France Luxe. If you’re a regular MCLV reader you’ll know that I’m a big fan of a chic updo. I rarely have the time or inclination to “do” my hair so it’s hardly ever worn down without expert intervention.

Another thing that I adore? Braids!

My childhood love affaire with braids actually began after roughly two dozen viewings of Street Fighter – One of the characters wore her long hair in two French braids and I begged my babysitter to teach me how to braid. I braided my hair daily for MONTHS after that.

Since I’ve moved on from pigtails – Most of the time anyway – Here’s a quick & easy four-step braided updo for you to try!

[1.] Part hair in the middle and French braid one or both sides,

[2.] Finish the braid by pulling in all of your hair, fasten with a clear elastic if you need to,

[3.] Twist your braid around into a bun,

[4.] Secure your twisted bun with a hair stick!

Do YOU love braids as much as I do?

Fall & Winter Hair

As far as I’m concerned one of the best parts of the changing seasons is getting a chance to spice up your routines and styles. You get a fresh slate style-wise and can go anywhere with it. Whether that means doing a little Fall shopping, trying out some fun beauty products, or giving a new hairstyle a spin.

Fall & Winter Hair Styles:

While beachy waves and sweet updos are perfect for BBQs, weddings, and outdoor events during the Summer, it’s fun to mix things up this time of year. Check out some of these chic ideas and fun tutorials for Fall & Winter.

Fall & Winter Hair TLC:

Between salt water, chlorine, and the harsh rays of the Summer sun, your tresses can take a beating during the warm-weather months. But that doesn’t mean the wind, rain, snow, and colder temperatures of Fall and Winter can’t be just as damaging – So be sure to give your strands some much deserved TLC in the coming months.

Vacation Planning: Spring & Summer Hair

The time for Spring Break and Summer vacations is swiftly approaching which means that it’s almost time to start thinking about your travel style. One of the things that I love about vacations is playing the part of a vacationing fashionista – Breaking out my resort gear, simplifying my beauty routine, and spending all my time in sandals & bathing suits. I keep boxes of vacation gear on the upper shelves of my closet filled with everything from bath suits, sarongs, and wet suits to colorful maxi dresses, sundresses, and bathing suit cover-ups.

In this three-part series I’ll discuss some of the most fun parts of getting away from it all – (1) Mixing up your go-to hair styles, (2) Changing your beauty routine to keep things simple, and finally (3) Styling & packing for your trip.

If you’re staying at a nice resort or aren’t the type to leave home without your tools here are some hairstyles to try out for your next vacation – Master Using Your Curling Iron In 3 Easy Steps from Refinery 29.
