Wireless Headphones Review | JLab vs Jaybird

I just got my second pair of wireless headphones and couldn’t help but start comparing the two pairs.

This review will be comparing the Jaybird X3 and the JLab Audio Epic2 wireless headphones.

{Jaybird X3 Wireless Headphones}

Jaybird X3 In-Ear Wireless Bluetooth Sports Headphones:

  • Cost: $129
  • Pros: These are extremely noise canceling, best headphones I’ve worn in that respect. They’re also very snug. Perhaps too snug. There are different sizes so you can adjust the snugness. The volume and music clarity are also great. I can confirm that running in these babies is no problem and they have a clip so that you can attach it to the back of your shirt or sports bra if you’re bouncing too much.
  • Cons: These don’t have a great battery life and drop down to 80% almost immediately upon use. They do charge pretty quickly though so that helps offset the charge life. I keep them in the little pouch and the charger fits into any USB port, so they’re not too cumbersome to recharge.

{JLab Audio Epic2}

JLab Audio Epic2 Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Sport Earbuds:

  • Cost: $100
  • Pros: Good battery life. Adjustable length and multiple sizes for ear comfort.
  • Cons: These are the over-the-ear style headphones, which I hadn’t actually realized when I ordered them. They don’t stay in well for running as a result, but are fine for walking or weight lifting/gym workouts. Too much bouncing just doesn’t work well with them. The music quality is pretty good, but not as good as the JayBirds.

Overall, I’m happier with the JayBirds, despite the shorter battery life.

Let’s Talk About: Headphones

Another staple for me at the gym? {Other than the perfect sports bra, which is, obviously, a very serious priority…}

Headphones!

I can’t workout or run without them. And believe me when I say that I have tried virtually every pair out there. Why? Because I break them all!!

My go-to move is getting my arm stuck in the middle and pulling down, promptly ruining one side of the headphones. Only one side though. Every. Single. Time.

While I’d never go so far as to claim to be a “responsible adult,” these days, I would have thought that getting older would mean fewer of these mishaps. But not so much in my case.

And before you ask, yes, I have tried more expensive brands as well. I had high, high hopes for the Beats by Dre headphones which lasted almost 6 months before I broke the left side.

So if I can’t keep myself from destroying all of mine, why am I hear talking about headphones? Because I have discovered not one, but TWO, pairs of Caity-proof headphones. Cars have crash test dummies. Headphones have Caitys.

So, without further ado, the winners are…

For daily life {read: not the gym} I have had a pair of Frends white and gold on-ear headphones. I balked hard when I first saw the price of those, but kept hearing raves, and finally snagged a pair on super sale at Nordstrom. Trust me on this – They are worth every penny. I use mine at my desk every single day AND travel with them, and the leather is still holding up beautifully. It’s been over three years!

For the gym & running I swear by my Bose QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. One of the BEST gifts I’ve ever been given and they’ve lasted almost two years. The friend who got them loves music and old school sound systems so he knows a thing or two about sound quality. My #1 tip with these is to hold on to the carrying case. I wrap them up and put them in the case between every single use. And, I’m thrilled to report, not a single issue to date!

What are YOUR favorite brand? Can you workout without them?
