Decoration Inspiration: Black & White

It’s hard to decide whether my decorations take a page from my closet’s book, or vice versa. It’s something of a chicken and egg conundrum to be fair. However, what you can easily tell, is that I’m a huge fan of  black & white.

With or – GASP – Without accent colors.

I’m currently finishing up a painting project – My very first time improving upon a rental in all my years in San Francisco – And once the last drop of blue-grey paint dries I will be enthusiastically replacing rugs, art, pillows, and textiles.

Here’s some of the fabulous images, from Pinterest mais bien sur, that are inspiring this latest decoration project at MCLV HQ.

Decor Dreaming & Inspiration

While closet cleaning & wardrobe detoxing are huge favorites of mine, they do tend to go hand-in-hand with me wanting to redecorate my entire apartment. Which is an especially dangerous feeling when you live alone and there’s no one to keep you from overhauling your living space multiple times a year.

I’m currently obsessing over black & white color schemes, animal prints, and luxurious, touchable fabrics, and textures.

{I can’t decide what I adore most in this shot – The framed black & white vintage maps. The combination of textures & fabrics. Or the divine glass-topped matching tables.}

Apartment Decorating

I’ve been wanting to do a home décor post since I moved into my “new” place this past November. So when the fabulous Miss Lydia Hudgens came out to San Francisco recently I decided to take the plunge.

Which meant, naturally, running around like a lunatic the night before to finish hanging shelves and building bookcases…

When I moved last year I decided to donate of all my furniture and get a fresh start in the new place, so it took some time to accumulate all the pieces.

A simple black & white color scheme was my go-to with some fun metallic accents like pillows and small glass tables.

In the bedroom I stepped up the metallic touches with fun, eye-catching mirrored bedside tables and a matching oversized dresser {which you’ll see when I share my jewelry collection!}

The black & white stripes and bold silver furniture struck me as a great combination and I was quite pleased with how everything came together. Even if I did have to assemble the doors and drawers for the bedside tables…

The layout of the apartment is long and skinny so I wanted to keep clutter to a minimum and not inadvertently overwhelm the space. Minimalist black & white prints and mirrors help with the flow of the space.

Sorry about the funny angles for all of these images, it’s clearly quite a challenge to photograph small, narrow spaces!

What’s YOUR decorating style?

Healthy & Fitness:

Do you track your daily food intake? While it can see daunting to keep track of every single thing that you put in your mouth over the course of the day, it can be a useful and informative project. Commonly people over – or under – estimate their intake of calories, fat, protein, fiber, and vitamins & nutrients. Over the years I’ve tried a handful of programs – From Slimkicker to Livestrong to the My Fitness Pal app (for Android!) that my boyfriend recommends to his CrossFit clients. I highly recommend giving this a try, you may be surprised by what you find out!

I can’t live without music in my day-to-day life and I REALLY can’t live without music at the gym. If I forget my headphones or don’t charge my mp3 player, odds are I’ll skip my workout. So finding new tunes for my fitness sessions is essential – Whether they’re new tracks on the airwaves or I’m rediscovering CDs from my youth.
