MCLV Style: Dominican Larimar Cuff

I first became interested in jewelry and accessories when I moved to Italy my Junior year of college. Heading into the trip I was a tomboy – I loved getting dressed up for a night out with the girls, but I was utterly hopeless with makeup & hair, and my day-to-day style was very low-key.

I moved to Rome with a TUMI shoulder bag and a rolling suitcase. And came home six months later with another suitcase more than big enough for me to curl up in.

This girl learned how to SHOP!

More than just learning to love fashion, I remember that trip being really formative in terms of helping me create my own personal style.

I loved watching the Italian women on the streets. They were always put together, never a hair out-of-place. That didn’t mean a full face of pancake makeup, just that they put effort into their daily looks.

No sweat suits {this was the era of Juicy Couture velour after all}, no flip-flops, no gym clothes on the street.

You could spot a tourist from a mile away!

One of the things that I loved about going through my fashion transformation overseas was that I was removed from American trends. I learned that I should pick pieces and accessories that suited me, rather than what everyone else was wearing.

That’s still how I approach fashion, and one of the reasons that I was drawn to this stunning Dominican Larimar cuff. It’s unique, its eye-catching, and it’s the perfect way to complement my individual style. Add it to a business casual look for the office or layer with other baubles for a boho weekend outfit – Either way, it’s perfect.

And bonus? The handcrafted jewelry from Larimar Fine Jewelry combines the workmanship of local Dominican artisans with beautiful, rare Larimar stones. These turquoise hued gems are only found in the Caribbean waters of the Dominican Republic and, according to legend, are part of the mythical city of Atlantis.

So basically I’m a mermaid when I wear this!!
