MCLV Style: Work Wear

I love dresses.

I love bohemian maxi dresses. I love flirty little black mini dresses. I love retro-inspired midi-length dresses.

So at what point am I especially smitten with dresses?

When I’m getting ready for work, that’s when!

There is nothing easier than just grabbing a dress in the morning and simply walking out the door. It’s just one piece. There’s no early morning matching necessary. There’s no need to mix together separates. And there’s absolutely no stress.

And when you work long hours that begin well before the sun rises, not adding unnecessary stress to your dressing process each day is the name of the game.

This retro-inspired navy number from Adelyn San Francisco is the ideal frock for a business casual office situation. This shade of blue is subtle and works with neutral, black, or metallic hues, and the neckline is flattering. I adore the feel of old-school glamour that I get as soon as I put it on.

And the ultimate bonus? It has pockets!

What do YOU wear to work? Are you as big a fan of dresses as I am?

MCLV Style: Lace + Flowers

I’ve never felt terribly compelled to follow the “No white after Labor Day” rule.

I rarely feel the urge to wear white so when the urge strikes, I always go with it, regardless of the time of year.

And there was no stopping me after I spotted this demure-but-eye-catching white lace peek-a-boo dress at Les Mechantes.

It’s such a versatile dress, I’ve already worn it three times, styled completely differently each time.

The first time I wore it with a Banana Republic pearl necklace and pumps for a country club themed party, and the second was with sandals, layered necklaces, and a Vince Camuto jean jacket for brunch.

And this most recent time I went for colorful printed Kate Spade heels that I swooped up on The Real Real and a sleek white clutch.

How would YOU style this frock?

Crop Top: Ladylike Layering

After showing off this fun, hippie chic crop top look last week, I’m back today to give you another style idea for this purplemaroon crop top.

Flowy maxi skirts are always fun, but sometimes you need a little more structure in your life – Enter ladylike layering!

What I liked about this ladylike layering technique is that not only are you creating a fresh new style unique to you, but you’re giving your clothes more street time because you can wear them in so many chic different ways.

I wore this strapless Asos checkered dress last year in a completely different way, so it’s fun to wear it again! Check out Checkered Dress Part I and Part II to see how easy it is to mix and match.

MCLV Style: Prim & Proper

Working in the corporate world means that my office style tends towards classic and traditional – I keep my arms covered and wear knee-length skirts or dresses 4 – 5 days a week. But just because my style is fairly formal doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with work fashion!

What drew me to this was the embellished empire waist, it gave the retro-silhouetted dress a little something extra. And because the waist is already so dramatic I usually skip the necklaces with this dress and just pile on bracelets and rings. Or in this case, a black faux leather bow headband – J’adore! <3

What’s the dress code in your office? Do you usually dress formally, informally, or business casual like me? Do you have a work “uniform” that you usually wear?
