After my recent W Hotel speech on workwear and business casual fashion I’m excited to share the last look from the Lan Jaenicke x MCLV collaboration.
This killer coat was one of my favorites – The oversized, dramatic collar really caught my attention. I love how the black & white print gives this classic piece of outerwear a bold, modern feel that goes equally well with brights or a minimal black look.

Beautiful gold jewelry from Kamryn Dame and some serious strands of pearls. It’s amazing how something as simple as accessories can add the perfect amount of polish and luxury to a look and really take it to the next level.
I recently shared two of my favorite boldly colored Lan Jaenicke jackets with you – Aubergine & Chartreuse – So today I thought we’d chat about the separates living underneath those fabulous coats.
If you work in an office with a business or business casual dress code like I do – You end up living in separates. My closet is filled with simple pieces that can be quickly and effortlessly thrown together. You want pieces that are chic and flattering, and that go with everything in your closet to save you precious minutes in the morning.

This pencil skirt fit like a dream – And honestly, there are few things greater than a killer pencil skirt – But it was the chic little sweater that I really fell in love with. The red stripe up the back is perfection. It retains its classic esthetic and goes with everything, but the splash of crimson gives it a little something extra. Not to mention the vertical line is incredibly flattering!
To be completely honest, this isn’t a color that I’m normally drawn to when I’m shopping for myself. It can be hard to pull off and oftentimes clashes with a person’s skin tone or hair color. But despite that sliiiight internal hesitation my hand immediately reached out for this. And I absolutely loved how it looked once I slipped it on!
The soft, touchable fabric, the surprisingly flattering color, and the beautiful wide collar all came together to create the perfect cover-up.
What I especially like about this coat is how perfect for this is for office fashion – Throw it over a wrap dress or separates for a chic look to and from your office.
At the Stylematic Launch Party Runway Show earlier this year I found myself leaning forward and craning my neck to get a better view of the gorgeous cashmere coats that were making their way down the catwalk.
Clean lines, stylish, classic silhouettes, and rich, bold colors. Basically, everything that I love about outerwear. I later discovered that these beautiful creations were the work of local San Francisco fashion designer Lan Jaenicke. Raised in Beijing and educated in London before moving to New York and then San Francisco, Lan’s work has a very cosmopolitan feel. You can picture these chic pieces marching confidently down side walks around the world.

I recently got the chance to visit the lovely Lan Jaenicke studio here in SF and try on some of the beautiful coats and cropped jackets. With every sleeve that I touched and collar that I brushed I couldn’t help but envision scenario after scenario that each coat would be worn in year-around.
Layering cropped cashmere over dresses with tights and booties for Fall and Winter, pairing a lightweight jacket with jeans and a simple tee for Spring and Summer here in the land of wind.
This gorgeous aubergine number immediately caught my attention and I ended up trying it on not once, not twice, but three different times. In an hour…
While the color is what initially caught my eye – How do I not have any purple or aubergine in my closet? How? – It was the softness, the easy, flattering silhouette, and the versatility that eventually forced me to declare it my favorite of the bunch.
Stay tuned for more gorgeous outerwear and separates from Lan Jaenicke, an interview with the beautiful designer, and a peek into her studio. Need something to tide you over? Check out the swoon-worthy Shadows & Light video hereshot in Beijing.
