Looks of the Week: Chic Layers

When it comes to Fall I look forward to seeing how everyone is layering as the temperatures start to drop. I adore outerwear, but it’s more than that, it’s about creativity and eye-catching styling.

So this Looks of the Week round-up is showing off some of my favorite ways to style cold-weather pieces for this season.

{Sleeveless trench coats are the perfect layering piece for warmer days or less chilly climates this time of year. I love this style with the monochrome under the coat & chic accessories adding a punch of color.}

Today’s Styling 101 post is about mixing things up – From textures & fabrics to mixing metals.

I love how this look pairs vintage gold and silver brooches & cocktail rings – The different styles & metals make the look more striking and visually interesting.

The other thing that’s so fun about this look is the variety of textures & fabrics in the clothing – The coat alone has faux fur sleeves, a tweed torso, and cashmere trim.

And pairing it with a pleated mini skirtboldly colored top, and striped tights created a cozy Winter look that, despite being mostly black, was still very fun & one-of-a-kind.

Do YOU like to mix gold & silver jewelry?

MCLV Style: Striped Leopard

Mixing and matching patterned pieces can be such a creative exercise – Deciding what pieces go together, which prints would look good with which patterns, and putting the finishing touches on a look without going too over-the-top.

That’s my idea of a good time! 🙂

These peep-toe leopard print booties are a new acquisition. I was thrilled to discover that the Paragon Outlets in Livermore are not only close enough for a day-trip, they also feature outlets for Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Barneys NY.

It’s heaven in other words, so stay tuned for more of my fabulous finds from this great girls trip to Paragon!

MCLV Style: Embellish Me

Fun accessories and embellished pieces are a great way to take a basic look to a new level. So next time you’re putting together a nighttime look be creative and layer on the extras!

This outfit could have just been black skirt + black top but with the addition of brightly colored tights, an embellished collar, fun jewelry, and spiked heels it’s a more one-of-a-kind look. But I did discover that the downside of this too-cute pleated faux leather skirt from The Limited is that it wrinkles sooooo easily. And quickly. Thus the absence of straight-on shots!

What’s your favorite fun extra this Winter or the piece you’re most excited to try out?
