One Piece Swimsuit Round-Up

It’s always interesting to see what new trends come into existence each season. Sometimes it’s something wholly new, sometimes it’s a reboot of a vintage style.

And while I’m not much for chasing short-term trends, I always appreciate when something extremely wearable becomes all the rage.

Some recent trends I’ve enjoyed the last few season – Stylish tennis shoes, athleisure, flat slides, jumpsuits, mixing high-and-low, and, last but not least, the re-emergence of one piece swimsuits.

In an age when showing as much skin as possible seems to be the name of the game, it has been a breath of fresh air to see one piece suits come back into vogue.

Blame it on Baywatch if you want, but I’m thrilled.

But don’t worry – With lace-up details, ruffles, feminine florals, modern cut-outs, and bold, eye-catching prints, there’s a huge variety out there to choose from.

{This stunning striped swimsuit from Dolce & Gabbana is retro-inspired and flattering. Don’t worry though, if you’re not up for spending Dolce & Gabbana-level prices, there are many other options. Anthroplogie has a cute gingham variety, Boys + Arrows is bringing back florals (groundbreaking!), Marysia is playing with sweet details, MiracleSuit has polka dots covered, and SAME Los Angeles has ladylike swimwear wrapped up in a bow.

{If a feminine, bohomenian style is more your speed, these sweet prints and hippie-inspired pieces will be just the thing. Trina Turk is showing stripes, florals, and cut-outs. Billabong has plunging necklines, laces, and crochet. Michael Kors is all about strapless bandeaus and halter straps. And Shoshanna is showing stripes, polka dots, and lace-up details.}

One Piece Swimsuit Round-Up

While it doesn’t feel like it outside right now in San Francisco, swimsuit season is right around the corner. Before we know it, it’ll be time for Spring trips, tropical climates, and – Of course – Breaking out the swimwear. I like to add a suit, or maybe two, each season, so I started my research early. Here’s a round-up of flattering, fun one piece suits.

Retro – If you’re in the mood for throwback styles on your next tropical vacation, check out The Victoria Swimsuit from Solid & Striped

Classic – This timeless black halter suit is perfect for someone who enjoys classic styling and a flattering cut. Norma Kamali has just the suit for you!

Daredevil – Love to make a splash? The cut-outs and strappy back of the Ava suit from Robin Piccone will help you make a memorable entrance. And exit…

Timeless – Summery stripes and sweet ruffles from Aerie are just the thing. Stripes are the trend that you can count on coming back into vogue season after season, so find a great striped suit and hold onto it.

Sporty Spice – If you’ve got some water sports in mind, you’ll be needing the Seea Avila Surf Suit to keep you covered. I for one love a long-sleeved suit when I have adventures on the schedule – Great for everything from SCUBA diving to water skiing.

Daring – The combination of a classic print, sweet color, and daring, plunging neckline combine to make this suit a dramatic showstopper. So if you’re in the market for some drama, the Lex Paisley Embellished one-piece from Beach Riot is a good choice. 🙂

Country – Whether you’re lake, river, or ocean bound, or just evoking some fun Dorothy style, this gingham cutie is the way to go.

Sweet – If you’re a fan of ruffles or other sweet, feminine details, this Aloha Floral suit from O’Niell is probably just your style.

Swimwear Must Have: Maillot One-Piece

During my recent trip down to Los Angeles there was some quality beach time with my best friend. My favorite part about going to the beach? The people watching! From teenagers sneaking a beer to wide-eyed tourists surprised by the water’s temperature to blasé locals with their perfected routine. It’s always fun to check out the various warm-weather styles making an appearance.

And who was the most memorable woman on the beach that day? It wasn’t the skimpy bikini clad Europeans near the lifeguard station or the sporty surfers carrying their boards – It was a pregnant woman who passed us on her morning walk.

What was so striking about her? It was a combination of factors including glowing, healthy skin, her perfect dancer’s posture, and the classic, oh-so-chic black one-piece swimsuit she was wearing. She may have been 7-8 months pregnant, but we couldn’t take our eyes off of her.
