MCLV Style: Midi Pencil Skirt

I’m excited to share a fabulous new boutique with you guys – Les Mechantes was recently launched by my friends Kat and Ashley. This up-and-coming lifestyle brand has everything you need, from killer clothing and accessories to pet gear and home goods.

During my recent trip to their pop-up trunk show I snagged two pieces that I’m thrilled about – The first being this versatile Amaro Skirt.

Midi length skirts are one of my favorite hemlines – They’re fun, flattering, and easy to style. There are so many options when it comes to dressing up and down this skirt – A white button-down blouse and classic black pumps for the office or an embellished tank and killer stilettos for a night out on the town.

Fashion Fest – aka running around Union Square with my favorite partner-in-crime – Seemed like the perfect opportunity to break this bad boy out. And what better way to have a little fun with a demure hemline than adding some leather? This new Banana Republic top is swiftly becoming a staple, it somehow manages to go with EVERYTHING.

MCLV Style: Classic Workwear

I’ve shown some love for the classic pencil skirt before {Pencil Skirt: Day-To-Night} but I wanted to share an example of my work style. No, I don’t usually wear head-to-toe black during the Spring, but it was a Friday and I prefer clothes that don’t show stains when I’m traveling! 🙂

I fell in love with this Peter Pan Top when it arrived – It’s a really versatile, fun piece. I’m a fan of Peter Pan collars and the studs are perfect for Spring, this piece looks great with jeans, shorts, or for work with a classic pencil skirt like this one.

Pencil Skirt: Day-To-Night

Pencil skirts are up there with wrap dresses, trench coats, and the perfect Little Black Dress when it comes to investment pieces. They’re a Must Have regardless of whether you’re in the market for a classic black skirt or something more dramatic and eye-catching

Not sure what style pencil skirt is the best option for you? Check out the fabulous finds below and see which skirts best suit your personal style and pocketbook!

{Left: Pencil Skirt in Jersey – $15 through $30 @ Asos, Center: Wool Pencil Skirt – $60 @ J.Crew & Right: Pencil Skirt – $50 @ Mango}

If you’re going for a more classic & timeless look or would like to pick a piece that’s work appropriate as well, I’d go with a classic color like black, navy, or grey. You can easily go from the office to cocktails by exchanging pumps for strappy heels, adding a chic cropped jacket, and piling on the statement jewelry.

{Left: Emerald Pencil Skirt – $80 @ Banana Republic, Peplum Pencil Skirt – $50 @ Express & Right: Plaid Skirt – $60 @ The Limited}

These skirts are still perfect office-wear, but they’re also bold and eye-catching. Not for the faint of heart. Dress one of these brightly colored or printed skirts down for work with a tucked in button-down or party the night away in an embellished tank & fun heels.

{Left: Tinley Road Vegan Leather Pencil Skirt – $45 on sale @ Piperlime, Center: Neon Trimmed Pencil Skirt – $20 @ Forever 21 & Right: Jessica Simpson Floral Pencil Skirt – $40 on sale @ Macys}

A leather skirt is a fun option and when styled properly can easily work for day or night. Or you can try a fun printed option to spice up a weekend look. Either way, these dramatic skirts should be the focal point of your look so keep the accessories on the minimal side to avoid overdoing it.

So tell me, what’s your pencil skirt style – Classic, Bold, or Fun?

Looks of the Week

I hope that everyone had a lovely weekend! The weather is really starting to turn towards Fall here in San Francisco with crisp, clear days and shower-filled evenings. My favorite time of year!

Let’s celebrate Monday coming to a close with a handful of fashionable looks from around the globe that’ll have you as excited for Fall dressing and accessories as I am.

I love this look from head-to-toe. Pairing a floral blouse with a green & black polka-dotted high-waist pencil skirt was brilliant and those shoes are too cute!

Such a fun, eclectic look. The round retro frames suit her to a T, I love the print & pattern mixing with the tunic and leggings, and the leopard print mini Celine bag is a great final touch.

Leopard print shorts are a hard piece to pull off but this look perfectly combines the fun, eye-catching print shorts with a bright, but demure sweater & button-down combo. The addition of the lipstick red handbag and the black velvet smoking flats.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the perfect weekend look. It’s relaxed and comfortable but chi as hell. The chunky striped sweater and blazer combo is great and I adore all of the accessories – swoon – and I’m a huge fan of cropped pants. Well done!
Such a stunning all-black look. I love all of the great details here – The studded leather Zara skirt, the animal print smoking flats, and the wide cuff.
Who says nautical trends are just for Spring? This look proves that navy and white can easily be just as chic in Fall silhouettes as Spring, especially with neutral accents!
