Ritual Hot Yoga – The Down Low

Ritual is a unique yoga experience {check out more of my thoughts here}. They play great tunes and you move to the beat of the music. It’s a fun, fast-paced yoga practice that can feel more like dance choreography at some points.

It’s also hot.

And dark.

So, in summary, you’re feeling the music, dancing your body through a flow, releasing toxins through sweat, and celebrating your practice by candlelight.

Needless to say – It’s absolutely amazing.

New Studio – The Details

The main studio is in SOMA waaay south of Market so this new spot on Kearny near Maiden Lane is super convenient for everyone who works near/around the Financial District. It’s also just a block from the Montgomery Street BART station for those coming in from outside the city.

And the coolest part of the new spot, IMO, is that the studio itself is downstairs. You walk into the space off of Kearny Street and that’s where the showers, lockers, and check-in area are, and then you head down these amazing vintage wrought iron stairs to the practice area.

It’s like a secret getaway!

National Yoga Month

September is National Yoga Month and while I got something of a late start, I’m thrilled to be celebrating.

In my 30 Day Self Challenge during August I talked about my love of yoga and how I was a bit disappointed that I have a bad habit of choosing workouts over yoga classes. After making a concerted effort during August to squeeze in more yoga, and after falling head-over-heels in love with Ritual Hot Yoga this Summer, I really wanted to dedicate a full month to my yoga practice.

Enter CorePower Yoga. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat {moicontrelavie} you may have seen me doing headstands poolside in August. That was a seriously fun outdoor yoga event at the Phoenix Hotel. It was hosted by CorePower Yoga and I loved getting to meet the team and improve my practice with their guidance.

So what are my goals for National Yoga Month?

While I am very interested in working on arm balances in general, I’m actually not going to focus on hitting any specific goals this month. My goal is really just to enjoy myself and focus on walking into the studio and letting go of the outside world.

I took a Ritual Hot Yoga class this past weekend and they always have a mantra that they focus on for the day. I loved Saturday’s, which was: “Let it come.” Lindsay reminded us not to waste precious moments when the next moment will come regardless.

So slow down, relax, enjoy.

Fitness Friday Spotlight: Ritual Hot Yoga

Kids, I have a brand new obsession.

I’m talking, a can’t-live-without-it obsession.

Ritual Hot Yoga is amazing. Their website captures the description best: Sweat-Dripping, Candlelit Hot Yoga to Badass Beats. Breathe to the beat. Move to the beat. Sweat to the beat.

If you’re thinking “Yoga isn’t really my thing,” you’re in for an awakening.

This isn’t like any yoga class I’ve ever taken. I adore yoga – It gets me out of my head and stretches me out wonderfully. Unfortunately, I’ve found in recent months that I’ve been consistently choosing spin or TRX over yoga.

Ritual Hot Yoga is here to change that.

On top of the benefits I’ve come to expect from yoga, they’ve turned it into a heart-pumping, fast-paced workout that leaves me rejuvenated and grinning. When you’re flowing through the movements quickly, the yoga becomes a dance.

The mirror-lined studio is kept dark, illuminated by candles placed throughout the space, and promotes a kind of intimacy that encourages you to try moves you’ve never done or push yourself a little harder.

Not only did I try side crow and headstands in my first class, but I did it in a sports bra! {I’ve never done a workout in a sports bra before}

The heat warms your muscles and improves flexibility, while also promoting a delicious and detoxifying sweat.

Warning: You will be in a puddle by the end of class. They have showers and all the products you need to clean up afterwards, but I highly, highly recommend removing your makeup before class. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
