MCLV Mange: Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

I have a soft spot for smoothies and while I can happily drink the same one day after day – Lately this peanut butter smoothie – Sometimes I like to mix things up. These giant smoothie bowls with a mix of toppings are a delicious, nutrient-packed, and satiating option any time of the day.

What’s especially great is that there are an endless combination of fruits and toppings that you can use. Which means you don’t have to follow a strict recipe or run to the grocery store for specific ingredients if you want a smoothie – Just use whatever goodies you have in your fridge or cupboards.

After peeking into my freezer to find frozen bananas and strawberries, I decided to play around with a classic strawberry banana flavor today. See my creation, and how to make one of your very own, below!

MCLV Mange: Peanut Butter Smoothie

Yes, you read that correctly.

This bright green smoothie is peanut butter flavored.

It’s a little weird, I know. But I promise it’s amazing. Hear me out.

One of the reasons that I love smoothies are that they’re a great way to get a TON of nutrients. Fruit, veggies, powders, supplements – I add them all. So when I saw the amazing looking Vegan Peanut Butter Cup Shake from The Detoxinista, I immediately started plotting about how I could tweak it in little ways to get a bit more bang for my buck.

And since I don’t believe in smoothies without spinach, mine is green.

  • Add ingredients to blender or food processor
  • Add water as needed & blend, blend, blend
  • Enjoy!

*For real, powdered peanut butter is LIFE ALTERING. I use it all the time in all sorts of different recipes. I keep the plain peanut butter and the chocolate peanut butter at home and at the office. Great for oats, smoothies, nice cream, baking…

MCLV Mange: Protein Smoothie

I’ve been amping up my workout regime in recent months and one of the most important ways to stay healthy and promote recovery while you’re increasing physical activity is through nutrition.

Smoothies and protein puddings are a GREAT way to replenish your body, not only because liquids are easier for your body to digest than solids, but because you can throw in all sorts of great ingredients to get the most out of your meal.

  • 1 Frozen Banana {Sometimes I skip the fruit entirely and add sweet potato instead!}
  • 2-3 Cups Organic Spinach
  • Lemon Juice
  • Fresh Ginger
  • Maca
  • Acai
  • Bee Pollen
  • Wheatgrass

{Note: Whenever I get bananas I wait for them to ripen then peel, cut into fourths, and put in a Ziplock bag in the freezer. Instant ice cream or smoothies whenever a hankering hits!}

  • Add ingredients to a blender or food processor
  • Add liquid of choice to achieve desired consistency {almond milk, coconut water – Whatever you’d like!}
  • Drink enthusiastically!

This is the recipe for my current favorite protein smoothie, but the beauty of smoothies is that you can add whatever you’re craving or whatever is in your fridge/freezer. At night when I’m in the mood for something sweet after a long day I’ll sprinkle shredded coconut, goji berries & chia seeds on top for an added boost.

Morning Routine

Whether you’re a morning person or a snooze-button person there’s something calming and relaxing about the perfect morning routine. Not only does it set the tone for the rest of the day, it gets you out the door prepared to conquer the world.

I love the comfort of routine and I love the silence and peace of early mornings. When I wake up in the mornings I like to keep it simple – I wash my face with cold water to revive my skin and then head to the kitchen for a little morning detox drink {1 Tbsp lemon juice + 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar +1/8 Tsp each Turmeric, Cayanne & Ginger}.

Then I’m out the door in my gym clothes for a mile walk to my office. I look forward to this walk every day – For that twenty minutes I get the city all to myself. The city is still sleeping, the streets are quiet and empty, and I can enjoy my city in silence.

After a brief stop at my desk to get through my inbox I head to the gym for 10-20 minutes of stretching, rolling out, core, and/or some quick yoga poses. Nothing strenuous, I just like to have those few minutes to myself to warm up my muscles and prepare for the day.

Once I’m back at my desk I’ll have another glass of warm water with lemon juice and then either a peppermint green tea or a non-dairy capucchino. While I’m not an intermittent fasting junkie I do like to wait a few hours for breakfast and will usually have a protein-packed smoothie after my mid-morning weight training session.

My breakfast smoothie can vary though usually it contains a combination of the following fresh, organic ingredients: Kale or spinach, ginger, sweet potato, vegan/gluten-free protein powder, mint, and lemon juice.

What’s your morning routine?

Healthy Smoothie Recipes

If you’re following me on Instagram {Moicontrelavie} you’ve likely witnessed my love of green smoothies – They’re my usual breakfast/post workout recovery meal Mondays through Friday when I’m at the office.

I get lots of questions about my go-to smoothie concoction, what protein powder I use, whether I believe in “superfood” ingredients etc. So I’ll start this post with my favorite morning smoothie and then share some great Healthy Smoothie Recipes that I’ve found lately and think you’ll enjoy.

My Green Monster:

  • Apple
  • 1/2 – 1/4 Roasted Sweet Potato
  • Couple Handfuls of Spinach or Kale
  • Lemon juice or water
  • Sun Warrior Protein Powder {Vanilla – Raw, Vegan & Gluten-Free}
  • Navitas Naturals’ Wheatgrass
  • Cinnamon

While I LOVE a sweet smoothie and virtually any variety with fresh or frozen berries in it, I really like the energy boost and filling nature of a smoothie filled with greens. Better than coffee! 🙂

One of the most important things about smoothies is finding the right protein powder for yourself – I’ve tried dozens and finally settled on Sun Warrior a few years ago. Depending on your needs, allergies, and preferences you could try whey, hemp, brown rice… Reading reviews can be extremely helpful in making your choice so check out Chef Amber Shea’s PlantFusion Cookies ‘n Cream Protein Powder.
