Making Your Home Spring Ready

Spring is an amazing time of year. The seasons are shifting and suddenly it’s warm and light out. Trees are bright green, flowers are bursting into bloom around you, and Winter seems like a dim, dark memory.

It’s also the perfect time for a fresh start! From healthy living challenges to Spring cleaning, it’s a great time to tackle projects and refresh your living space.

Here are few recommendations to make your home Spring-ready!

No. 1: Clear Things Out

You can take this to different levels depending on where you’re at right now. If a full clear out of your home seems like an impossible pipe dream, just start small. Try going through your junk drawer. We all have them, and it’s a great place to start. If you’re like me and try to keep things tidy with semi-regular clear outs, now it’s time for the big one. Check out the posts below for some tricks & tips.

No. 2: Freshen Up Your Home

I always crave change in the Spring. I want something new to visually reflect that things are changing. Sometimes that means a new piece of furniture or art, sometimes that means rearranging existing pieces in the space, and sometimes it means swapping things from room-to-room. Regardless of how much I change, or spend, walking into a room and having something new and different greet me, is a great Spring feeling.

Here are few easy, and inexpensive, ways to spruce things up:

No. 3: Embrace Fragrance

Scent is very powerful. A whiff of something can conjure up memories long forgotten. The smell of your grandma’s perfume, the smell of your favorite dinner as a child, the smell of freshly cut grass and honeysuckles… It can change your mood immediately.

So why not apply that to your home. Home fragrances can be a great way to promote relaxation and make your home welcoming the second someone walks in?

Flowers, diffusers, and candles are all great ways to introduce a beautiful, subtle fragrance to your home. I for one love fresh, bright smells this time of year and favor citrus-based products in the Spring. See a few favorites below:

Spring Style Round-Up

It’s finally starting to feel more like Spring around these parts, which means pushing the outerwear towards the back of the closet and bringing out dresses, lightweight layers, and some more color. One of the benefits of tending towards more classic styles is that you can repeat pieces season after season. Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite Spring styles from the last few years to get you in a sunny frame of mind!

{The Little White Dress never goes out of style. I love this sleeveless version with pockets! Similar styles here, here, and here.}

{While I’m not really the denim overall wearing type, I do love a good pinafore. For me the key is picking one in a neutral, easy to style hue like black, white, or nude.}

Spring Wardrobe Essentials

After tackling my Fall Wardrobe Essentials last year – I’m popping back in to cover my Spring Must Haves. From accessories to colors you’ll love to the pieces that will bring everything together.

Here are my picks!

Crossbody Bag – I’ve been LUSTING over so many chic crossbody bags I don’t even know where to start. While I’m dying to get a vintage Gucci Soho Disco Crossbody or the Bvlargi Krung Serpenti Forever Bag, I’ve also noticed some seriously cute ones from Rebecca Minkoff, MICHAEL Michael Kors, Banana Republic, and聽Kate Spade New York.

So – Whether you’re going high-end or reasonably priced, there’s a crossbody bag for everyone.

Statement Stripes & Florals – Certainly not a shocking trend for Spring, but there are some fun new ways to bring these prints into your wardrobe.

Classic striped maxi dresses, floral carry-all totes, boldly striped Capri-length pants, floral printed oversized hats, or mini striped crossbody bags.

Little White DressesMini, midi, or maxi, try out a white dress for Spring.

If you’re feeling feminine try an eyelet sundress, if you’re in the mood for a little edginess then I would suggest an asymmetrical hemline, or if you want to keep things low-key a slip dress is the piece for you.

Knee-Length – From pencil skirts to Bermuda-style shorts to A-line skirts, things are hitting right at the knee this season.

This is a flattering length for most body types, just make sure that you’re pairing the oversized bottom half with a minimal or sleek top half like a bodysuit, simple tank top, or midriff baring crop top for the daring types.

Bold Colored Accessories – Handbags, jewelry, and shoes in bold, eye-catching colors. Scarlet, cobalt blue, highlighter yellow

Choose your favorite color and find some statement pieces to play up a simple dress or great fitting pair of jeans for Spring and Summer.

Cropped Jeans – A pair that lands right at the ankle is the way to go for Spring. Black, indigo, or white-washed, it’s going to be聽all about those second skin jeans.

Some other big trends for Spring that I’ll probably be passing up this time around? Pink, ruffles, and bra tops. 馃檪 Not really my style…

What’s on YOUR hit list for this season?
