MCLV Style | A Retro Take on Stripes

The stripe is a Summer Classic. This print comes back in a new iteration every season. This particular take on stripes caught my attention immediately.

I love the way the two variations of stripes marry at the waist, it’s a really flattering detail. And the faintly retro style of the silhouette and neckline also offer you a fun chance to style it up.

You could even add a red belt for a fun twist!

I wore this dress during my most recent trip to New York. One of my favorite things about visiting New York is how much more interested in fashion people are. It’s a wonderful place for people watching. Second only to Paris!

Anyway, while running errands all over town last month, I slipped into this little striped number. I added fun metallic wedges and my favorite Gucci crossbody bag to keep my hands free for shopping and errands.

I was comfortable and fit right in!

How do YOU like your Summer stripes?

MCLV Style: Chambray

A chambray piece is effortlessly chic and always in style, which means that this sweet little striped number from Les Mechantes is everything that you need for Spring this season. And probably next season as well.

An eye-catching striped print, a flirty little hemline, and an easy-to-style silhouette that looks great solo or can be paired with anything from a cropped denim jacket to a beautiful embroidered coat like the one pictured here.

That’s what I really love about this material – It’s versatility.

You can easily dress it up or down, and you can style it in any number of ways. It’s always fun and flattering, and totally easy to wear.

When these retro Adidas Gazelle sneakers arrived I knew that I wanted to put together a casual weekend look. Something that I would wear to walk along the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market on a sunny Saturday morning.

Cute but comfortable, and easy to spend the day walking around in.

I love this split side striped tunic from Target is one of my go-to, easy weekend shirts. It’s great for layering and one of my favorite ways to wear it is paired with a button-down chambray shirt. I knew the top would pair really well with these sneakers so this look came together in no time!

MCLV Style: Faux Leather Style

I love color. I’m always drawn to the bright hues and bold prints when I’m shopping. I have outerwear, dresses, heels, and accessories in every color imaginable. And yet… On weekends I frequently default to head-to-toe black or, just maybe, branch out to black & white.

Why?

It’s easy to style and effortlessly chic.

My weekend uniform of late has been slim fitting pants or structured leggings, with an oversized tunic. These paneled faux leather pants from BCBG are a current favorite since they’re lined and really comfortable.

When you’re wearing basics like black & white, finishing your look is all about the accessories. My new Kate Spade bag from The Real Real perfectly played into the color scheme and my Marrin Costello for Les Mechantes lariat added just the right amount of shine.

What’s YOUR weekend uniform?

MCLV Style: Stripes + Cheetah

Let’s talk about mixing and matching. This Spring tradition is all about creating a unique, fun, eye-catching look. When I’m pairing separates it’s all about expressing who I am that day.

Feeling dramatic? Let’s try jewel tones and moody florals. Feeling romantic? Pastels, sweet polka dots, and neutrals are just the thing. Feeling feisty? Let’s mix some unexpected prints!

This striped boyfriend blazer is one of my favorite Spring pieces – It manages to go with everything. I recently wore it over a black Banana Republic fit and flare dress and red Madden Girl heels – But I love it just as much with my favorite Paige Denim jeans!
