Blogger Confessions {XVII}: College Edition

Welcome back to the聽blogger confessions聽series! Its been a while… 馃檪

This Confessions post is all about college factoids and ridiculousness from my four wonderful years at the University of California at Berkeley.

When I was in college I had very definite plans about joining the CIA. I also wanted to be the first female accepted in the Navy SEALS.

I lived in Rome, Italy for the Spring semester of my Junior year studying Art History. Which, incidentally, was not my major.

While Berkeley was ringed by cute little caf茅s filled with students studying up a storm, I was a library girl and routinely studied in the smaller History and Classics libraries. Fewer people, more table space, and I frequently needed to locate more arcane texts for my papers and studying sessions.

I joined UC Berkeley as a member of the diving team but due to an injury – The same spinal injury I’m still dealing with today – I never got a chance to represent UCB in competition.

I wrote an Honors thesis for each of my majors and the subject of my Classical Civilizations thesis is, in part, the basis of one of the novels that I’m working on writing right now. If I had gone straight into a PhD program after my undergraduate program as I’d originally anticipated, it may have been the basis for my dissertation.

Beauty Pampering

I love a night in for a little beauty pampering – Giving my hair, skin, and even nails some much-deserved TLC.

I’m actually not sure if my love of pampering rituals came from my long-term obsession with masks, or if the masks came first. As with the chicken and egg, we may never know…

Here are a few of my all time favorites, which are just part of the reason I’m on my second year running of Sephora VIB Rouge status…

Murad Eye Lift Treatment – I read about this one in a magazine and immediately went onto the Sephora website to buy it. Wasn’t disappointed.

Once I’ve cleansed I’ll dap on a rich eye cream for the night. I’m currently聽on a bit of an Origins聽eye kick – Going back and forth between聽Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Eye Treatment and the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. The latter is my go-to when I’m traveling to help save the delicate skin under my eyes!

First I do a deep exfoliation with either the Korres Wild Rose Daily Brightening & Refinishing Buff Cleanser {my trip to Greece last year re-ignited my love affaire with Korres!} or Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub.

So good.

Then I apply a super lux face mask. Which is my favorite part of my beauty pampering evenings!!聽A few of my current favorites are:

Afterwards I lather on an intensive moisture like聽Josie Maran Pure Argan Intensive Hydrating Treatment. Or sometimes聽I’ll wear an overnight mask like Peter Thomas Roth Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask. I just put a hand towel over my pillow to avoid getting product on it!

Since I’m only washing my hair 1-2x a week these days – Because my hair stylist is the boss of me – I like to do a deep conditioning mask on cleaning day. I love the Argan Oil聽of Morocco Intense Moisturizing Treatment. A bonus of that one is that you can find it at your local drug store or Target!

Once my hair is clean, I apply an oil-based product to the roots. I adore the聽Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque.

Bathes are a key part of my nighttime ritual and I love to make them extra relaxing and rejuvenating with oils or salts. If I’m extremely sore & in need of some help with recovery, I’ll add Epsom salts. And if I had a stressful day or am having trouble sleeping that week, I’ll add peppermint essential oils. Bonus points if you add a candle to bath time for pampering night!

I’m a bit of a coconut fanatic and after my nightly bath I smother myself with Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter which is a magical, wonderful thing that I highly recommend.

What’s in YOUR beauty pampering regime?

Blogger Confessions {XVI}

After a few months’ hiatus, I’m back with a new Confessions post! Woo!

Today’s confessions are all about my childhood – From聽daydreams to sport stories聽that even I laugh about.

{Workout Inspiration Pinterest Board}

In聽5th grade I聽did a report on Michelle Campi, an Olympic gymnast who competed for the same gym as I did, and she lent me her Team USA competition leotard to wear for my presentation. #BestDayEVER {Additional confession: I wore it under my clothes all day…}

I was a tomboy聽as a kid聽and nearly cried聽when I had to buy a dress as a 4th grader to travel to gymnastics competitions. We had to “dress” for our plane trips and my long-suffering mother had to drag me around to find something suitable. I still remember the dress – It was an off white Henley material with flowers on it. This is especially funny given I’m SUCH a dress girl now…

My parents owned a bookstore while I was growing up in Sacramento so I spent my weekends sitting on the floor reading anything I could get my hands on.

{Wanderlust Pinterest Board}

My first international trip was to the Yucatan with my family when I was in 7th grade. The trip included scaling Mayan temples, getting the worst sunburn of my life, learning to snorkel, and eating primarily eggs & fruit for two weeks because I’d recently decided to become a vegetarian. Oh, and fun fact, I refuse to pose for pictures for the duration of the trip. I wasn’t a terribly pleasant teenager.

Growing up I wanted to be a doctor. And the first female president of the United States. Tsk. So strange that “Compliance officer” wasn’t at the top of my list…

Lipstick Loves

I never really聽wore lipstick in college or even in my early twenties, however in recent years I’ve fallen in love with lipstick and glosses of all varieties.

Why? It’s such an easy way to elevate your look! A red lip can take you from the office to cocktails with聽just the swipe of your favorite hue. So easy.

Another bonus? I’ve discovered that people don’t notice other things quite as much – Like, say, the bags under my eyes – If there’s a bold color on my lips to focus on. It’s the perfect way to spice up a weekend morning look too. Add some color, throw on giant sunnies, and you’re good to go. No face makeup required!

While I love the idea of a signature hue, I have to confess that I love trying different colors too much to marry any single brand or color.

Here are a few of the ones currently in my bag – And yes, there are all actually in my makeup bag right now, how’s that for obsession?

What’s YOUR favorite lipstick? Do YOU have a go-to brand?

Bethanimalprint: Post-Pregnancy Tips

Welcome to part III of the Bethanimalprint interview series on pregnancy. Since she was such an inspirational and fashionable mother and mother-to-be, I thought some of the lovely women in my audience would enjoy hearing some of her wisdom on fashion, food, and fitness during the three stages of pregnancy.

You catch up on her Pre-Pregnancy Tips and Mid-Pregnancy Tips, and read聽a few more fashion, food & fitness tips聽below!

One thing that I鈥檝e especially loved from your baby-related social media and blog updates is that you鈥檝e managed to keep some key wardrobe staples throughout. Do you have a favorite piece or brand that was able to see you comfortably and stylishly through all of the stages?

It鈥檚 hard to pick a favorite because different pieces/brands filled different needs. I loved Isabella Oliver and Ingrid and Isabel for staples I could wear to work. PinkBlush is great for trendier off-duty duds that are super affordable. If nothing else, a great pair of leggings and one nice maternity dress are two pieces every pregnant woman needs to have!

{Fitness After Baby #2}

I LOVED reading that you鈥檙e keeping yourself well-fed after pregnancy, prioritizing breast-feeding Gunnar over societal and media pressure to immediately start dieting and exercising. Can you give us some background on your thought process here and why you鈥檙e approaching things like this?

After I had our daughter, I lost my baby weight and then some too quickly and ended up losing my milk supply. I was disappointed I was only able to breastfeed for 3 months so this time around I vowed to slow down a bit. I鈥檓 still working out and eating healthy, but I listen to my body and I don鈥檛 over do it. I know I鈥檒l have plenty of time to work on getting 6-pack abs once Gunnar is done nursing.
