MCLV Travel Diary | Healthy Preparation Hacks

While it may be a little TMI, we all know how quickly an upset stomach or digestive issues can ruin a trip.

Real quick.

And since I have a finicky system to begin with, I take a lot of care when I’m traveling. I also have a few tried and true healthy hacks that I start before I leave for a trip, that I thought I’d share. Any and all of these tips can be started a few days before a trip and continued through the trip if you’d like.

This Glowing Green Smoothie is a nutritional powerhouse filled with spinach, avocado, pineapple, chia seeds and almond milk for more energy, focus and glow! | Healthy Smoothies | Weight Loss | Energizing Smoothies | Breakfast | Snack | #greensmoothie #skincare #glowingsmoothie #smoothies #feelgoodfoodie

Water:

Drink ALL the water. Travel is dehydrating. Flying is dehydrating. Hot locations are dehydrating. It will help your skin, your digestion, and your jetlag. So drink up. And sadly, that doesn’t mean coffee or champagne. Water is where it’s at. Can’t make yourself drink water? Try adding fruit for a spa water treat or a sugar-free electrolyte mix.

Liquids:

Another way to get and stay hydrated is enjoying smoothies and/or low-sugar juices. I tend to favor smoothies since you’ll get all the great fiber from the fruits & veggies, but to each their own!

Probiotics:

I always start taking a daily probiotic a week or so before a trip. A non-refrigerated variety is great since you can bring it along on your trip.

Ginger & Lemon Tea:

Nothing soothes an unhappy tummy quite like ginger tea – And bonus points for a lemon ginger mix. I frequently have a tea at night so before I trip I just swap whichever herbal tea is on rotation for lemon ginger.

Magnesium:

I’m a huge Natural Calm fan and it’s especially helpful for travel. Magnesium is calming and helps your body prepare for bed, which is extra helpful if you get thrown into a new time zone. I take it every night and bring packets with me when I travel and even on the plane. You can also try magnesium-rich foods in the evenings – Nuts, dark chocolate, spinach, tofu, avocados, and legumes are good sources.

Wanderlust | Caribbean Adventures

What’s a Friday without some daydreaming? This year my Wanderlust is taking me down to explore the Caribbean to search for new experiences.

While I love traveling and still have tons of places to visit, the last few years have been focused more on diving trips than visiting new cities or hiking through ancient ruins. Hopefully I’ll get some of those on the calendar in the next few years, but for now I’m enjoying tropical destinations, exploring the oceans, and seeing new plant and animal life.

After Costa Rica and Cozumel, this year’s destination is the furthest south of the Caribbean islands, Bonaire, in the Dutch Antilles.

Wanderlust: Summer Vacation Mode

I don’t know about you, but I start getting an itch to take a vacation when it’s been a few months. Especially this time of year. Summer has become one of my favorite times to travel – Whether it’s a long weekend away or a full-on international adventure.

I love everything about traveling. Packing your bags, getting a carry-on ready for an adventure, planning out a trip… I even love luggage and train stations and airports.

Visiting new places, making new memories, exploring new cultures, eating new foods, and meeting new people… What’s not to love?

So far, I’ve traveled to cities and countries in South East Asia, Western Europe, and both Central and South America. I tried to count them and I聽think I’ve tackled 12-13 countries to date.

Definitely time to try a new one. 馃檪

To get you in the mood, here are some amazing shots of beautiful locations, ninja packing skills, and all sorts of stunning wanderlust inducing images to fuel your Friday day dreams!

Wanderlust: Hawaii Adventures

I haven’t had the chance to do much in the way of traveling in recent months, much to my dismay, so it’s time to sate my wanderlust by looking towards my next big adventure – Hawaii.

I’ve been to Hawaii a few times – Each time with a different group of people and each time with a different adventure in mind. Snorkeling, hiking, sight-seeing, SCUBA diving… Always different, and always an absolutely wonderful time.

So what does my next Hawaii adventure hold?

Who knows!

Wanderlust: New York State of Mind

After loving every minute of my annual Winter trip to Manhattan I can officially say that I’m in a New York State of Mind. From my favorite restaurants to fun holiday traditions to how I love to spend my time… Check out some of the highlights from this trip each season.

Fashion:

Half the fun of going to New York is pulling out all your gorgeous outerwear and chic layers and killer footwear. You do not half-ass a trip to Manhattan my friends. Even when you feel like your ears will fall off because it’s so cold out!

My hit list this year included by new聽Sam Edelman Over the Knee Boots – They’re flat and super comfortable to walk in, but still give off just the right amount of sass – And my favorite turtleneck tunic for layering.

Food:

New York has the BEST restaurants. I completely give in to eating out for every meal when I’m in town because I don’t want to miss out. Plus there are tons of delicious, healthy options. Green juice may have taken over San Francisco, but luckily salad spots seem to have converged聽on New York.

My favorite spots? Blossom and Candle 79. Oh, and Chloe’s Soft Serve {i.e. banana ice cream, I’ve even eaten it while it was snowing!} But even more than just visiting my favorites – What I love about Winter in New York is wandering down the streets, peeking in windows, and unbundling to enjoy a cozy meal in warm spot filled with holiday decorations and happy shoppers.

Fitness:

Working out while I travel is a luxury and New York always delivers. From killer hotel gyms to personal training sessions with celebrity trainer Key Son – There’s always something fun and active to look forward to in NYC.

This year I was dying to try out the Dogpound. Not only is it an innovative fitness haven featuring high intensity conditioning, but it’s also a playground for international models, dancers,聽and athletes. Fingers crossed that I can get in a training session during my
