Statement Coats & Winter Outerwear

From men bundled up in wool pea coats to ladies in boldly colored belted jackets to children in sweet little cropped trench coats – One of my favorite things about the weather turning chilly is the appearance of gorgeous jackets, trenches, and statement coats on the streets.

Classic:

If you want to invest in a quality piece than you can’t go wrong with a classic silhouette in navy, black, or neutral. Go for a cut that’s flattering for your body type and you’ll be wearing that coat for seasons to come.

If you’re looking for a piece that has a slimming effect try on a coat with a single line of buttons or one that is belted at the waist.

Give your whole look a classic feel by pairing your timeless outerwear with chic flats or these great boots.

Bold & On-Trend:

Dramatic colors, bold prints, and coats with eye-catching extras like hoods, faux fur trim, toggle buttons, and fun fabrics are the perfect choice for a lady who wants to make an entrance this season.

You’ll be the belle of the ball in one of these gorgeous statement pieces. If you’re on the petite size a long jacket can be overwhelming so try a cropped version or something that stops at mid-hip.

Want to take your look even further? Pair your bold coat with a pair of killer ankle booties like these, these, or these.

Menswear:

Whether you’re a fan of fashion-forward styles, an understated elegance, or bold and preppy, there’s the perfect coat out there for you this season.

When it comes to menswear pea coats, trenches, and classic long jackets are all great choices since you can layer them when it gets cold or wear them open with the sleeves pushed up during transitional weather.

The perfect pair of boots is just the finishing touch you’ll need for this look – Try these great brown ones or classic black.

Looks of the Week – Cape Edition

My favorite piece this season has definitely been my fabulous Betsey Johnson faux fur-trimmed cape. I love the classic, old school glamour that a cape evokes. It goes great with jeans or over a dress, I even paired it with my favorite BCBG Max Azria floor-length gown. And clearly I’m not the only one who loves capes. So enjoy these fabulous looks!

Rent The Runway Review

In my MCLV Style: Ballerina post I mentioned that my gold sequined Badgley Mischka gown had been ordered from Rent The Runway but it was such a fun, and easy, experience that I really wanted to devote an entire post to telling you about it.

I’m not going to lie – I was hesitant to try this service since I didn’t know anyone who had tried it, but once I got onto the website and started looking through the selection of dresses there was no turning back.

I picked my date. Chose my dress. And ordered.

{Your dress in two sizes and any accessories you may have ordered will arrive neatly wrapped in bags & boxes, clearly labeled, and with concise directions for how to return them}

{The return process is quick & PAINLESS – All you do is stuff the pieces into the pre-labeled packing envelopes and drop them in a blue mailbox on the street. That’s all!}

I’m definitely going to utilize this service again in the future next time I need a fun gown for a one-time event. Maybe even for the next ballet event I’m hoping to attend in May to celebrate the opening of Cinderella.

Is Rent The Runway a website that you’d consider trying out? And if you have already tried it, was your experience as great as mine was?

MCLV Style: Anchors Away

I ran into GAP a few weeks ago for a pair of flats and as soon as I saw these cropped pants across the room I knew that they had to be mine. They’re fun and unique, and oh-so-perfect for Spring.

I mean, there’s nautical, and there’s nautical!

This look also make me smile because I felt like I was getting ready to head outside for a gorgeous Spring day in San Francisco. Not. “Winter, we need to talk. I love you, but I think we should see other people.”

Are you ready for Spring like I am? What’s your favorite Spring style?

I’m writing this post from chilly New York City where I’ll be attending IFBCON & getting swept up in the madness that is New York Fashion Week. If you want updates & pictures be sure to follow me!
